The fresh install of the mod and patches worked for me but I still havent got the engine sounds either. Only way I can get them is contantly playing with the 3D sound settings and even then they aren't that loud.

Mind you have just gone through the stations on my boat back to bridge and engine sounds are back - weird!

See Thors post 7 down for his thoughts on the sounds - Thanks Thor.

Silly question, please dont shout:), but you have installed with JSGME I take it?

I'm running Windows 7 this is a new pc and made a seperate games folder wher I have put SH4. Dont know if that is any help.

Good luck hope you get it sorted we need some more skippers out here I'm getting my butt kicked at the moment!

Well I reinstalled everything again and... what can I say? The engines are back and the retarded repeating sailor is off my boat! Stupid computers.:yeah:

Glad everythings sorted now Camaero, happy sailing :salute:

A scrollable map with shipping lanes in it would be nice.

@Thor

thanks for the report, the good visibility nights with clouded skies are a nightmare, the most difficult thing to fix. The ships are rendered visible for the player against the grey sky, yet for the crew dark clouds mean they don't see so well.

I'm trying to find a good compromise in the visibility distance, it's the best that can be done. :hmmm:

TH0R 03-19-10 01:32 PM

No problem mate. I am glad to be of help. For a ling time now I wanted someone to fix / fine tune this in RFB. Even this beta is vast improvement over the previous visual sightings. My crew used to be blind, and now it ain't any more. :)

If you need any thing specific scenario like the above tested, just say so.

Hitman 03-19-10 02:18 PM

Thanks again, I'll keep you updated on any new betas.

So far the only thing I can say to a 100% is that there is no perfect solution at all :haha:, but since we usually spend our time in the map screen at higher time compression -even if hunting- (64x or more) what I'm trying to do is ensure that in any case when the crew reports a ship, we are also able to see it. Of course, if someone spends his time at the deck in 1x time compression, he will be able to spot ships before his crew does, but for the average player -who jumnps to brdige view AFTER the crew report- this should be good enough.

Something interesting came up tonight while attacking a small task force. After my attack two destroyers came around and started pinging me. The pinging became VERY loud and it sounded like they had me nailed... but no charges were ever dropped. I waited a long time and nothing was happening. I ended up popping into external view and the destroyers were rocking side to side very quickly and looked like they were having all sorts of trouble steering and/or moving forward or backwards.

No charges were ever dropped. Eventually they left and went on their way.

Just thought I would report this and see if it has happened to anyone else. This is the first time it's happened to me so perhaps it was just one of those random screw ups or something. Only mods I'm using is RFB and RSRD with all patches.

Having lots of fun after my sound issues were fixed though.

DDs sometimes rock like on heavy seas. I don't know why bit this is present from the very first time I started playing SH4/RFB. I think it might be the stock game issue.

As for them not being able to track or DC you. God knows. They might have been rookies.

SteveUK 03-20-10 06:23 AM

Have had this happen before - I guessed maybe they couldnt pin point me and didn't waste charges? They did give up quite quickly as I recall.

I noticed two graphical issues. It could be driver related, I'm not sure. First off, while manning the deck gun (manning it myself), if I traverse the gun, I'll get some artifacting in the form of green blocks appearing/disappearing. Once the gun stops traversing, the artifacting stops. The second issue I noticed was during stormy weather. The sea towards the horizon remained flat calm and blue, while the sea in the immediate area of the boat was indicative of a stormy sea. It's almost as if the scene is not being fully drawn. I'm useng an ATI X1650pro, and the drivers are on the dated side. I haven't updated because I have no issues with any other applications, includeing a heavily modded IL2 1946. Any ideas fellas? Thanks.

I get the same thing. Could anyone tell me if it is possible to get the improvements of RFB 2.0 whilst at the same time keeping the visuals from stock (i.e the external environment, waves etc).

no DC's

I'm having a problem similar to Camero, only more consistent... I've played a total of four war patrols in two separate campaigns (US 1941) with RFB 2.0 + patch, and have never been depth charged a single time. The DD's hear me just fine, come charging over pinging, then circle around, passing right above me over and over, without ever dropping any charges. Eventually I realized that I could run around at flank speed at periscope depth, loading torpedos and taking potshots at aircraft carriers, as if the DD's weren't even there. One of them actually ran into my periscope once while I was ignoring them, but again dropped no charges.

If I surface the escorts DO engage me with their guns (although their aim sucks big time), but under ten feet of water I am invincible. :-?

Is there a fix for this? I have a clean 1.5 install with RFB 2.0 + patch as the only mod.

Interesting...

I should also mention that the sea was glassy smooth which does not help to explain the rapid rocking back and forth the DD's were doing. Must have been a hell of a party on those boats!

dacoobob 03-20-10 01:47 PM

Of the dozens of destroyers and cruisers who failed to depth charge me, a few were doing the rocking-back-and-forth thing, but they were a minority. I don't think it's related (at least in my case).

If you are playing with the external cam on take a good look at the escorts on the surface they all missing the deadcharge racks, they can hear you but they cannot damage you,i report this a while back

OlegM 03-20-10 06:12 PM

Any timeframe for the new patch? I was under impression few days ago it's mere hours from completion....

Were you able to resolve it?

Javelin 03-20-10 09:37 PM

I'm sure its been discussed here but I cannot find it. Are the surface cruising speeds correct with RFB. Standard speed sets at 15 knots. I'm using TM 1.9, RFB 2.0 with patch. I also have a clean install. At the present time I just adjust my speed to 9 knots as a rule but am curious about the speed rates used in RFB.

No,i don't know how to fix it

Well, I uninstalled SH4, deleted my saves, reinstalled everything in the proper order (SH4, Uboat Missions, RFB, RFB patch, RSRD, RSRD patch) using JSGME, and started a new (third) campaign. First patrol, I encountered a taskforce of 10 destroyers, attempted to engage, got my periscope spotted, and got thoroughly depth charged! :woot:

Two things were different this install- one, I used JSGME rather than manually installing mods, and two, I installed RSRD (before I was using RFB alone). So, don't really know what fixed my problem, I'm just glad the IJN is finally on the job!
