I can't say enough good things about this one... Avoid the Coconut one if you dislike soap, just FYI.

Debating the High West version, if I can get my hands on it.

Old Hopking "The Olde Seadog"

https://i.imgur.com/dY0NcQP.jpg Black spiced rum-based spirit drink (40% ABV) £16.99 from ALDI Stores

I usually avoid these alcoholic "drinks" but this arrived as a Fathers Day gift... and of course it would have been churlish not to have tried it

It turns out to be a beautiful draught... rather like a liquer but not as thick. A sweet, caramel-flavoured classic rum by the Old Hopking company... whose rum is always very passable

I've a feeling this isn't going to last long (it was already started when I took the photo)

Speaking of rum, I finished this little beauty off just last night. A litre lasted three sessions

Scotland's No 1 Dark Rum and the best selling Demerara rum in the world, O.V.D. was originally imported from Guyana in 1838 by George Morton, a Dundee based brandy and whisky bottler and blender - since recognised as Scotland's leading rum specialist.

OVD is made from the finest Demerara Sugar, produced from the finest sugarcane, the sweetest in the Caribbean, grown on the banks of the famous Demerara River in Guyana.

OLD because it has been imported to Scotland since 1838 and is aged longer than most rums to obtain a mellow, rich and spicy taste.

Vatted, because specially imported, top quality rums from Guyana are vatted or blended carefully to a consistent style which is smooth, rounded and full-bodied.

Demerara, because it is made from the very best sugar cane stock and comes from the country in which the Dutch established the colony of Demerara. The rums from this region are renown for being dark and aromatic and for their richness of flavour. OVD is often described as "pure Caribbean".

Thwaites Brewery "13 Guns" American IPA

https://i.imgur.com/ccQt4dB.jpg 5.5% ABV 330ml bottle, part of a gift box from ALDI which includes a "tulip" beer glass

"Intensely hoppy, rich mouth feel, malty flavours with soft tropicalfruit aroma and taste"

Samuel Adams "Boston Lager"

https://i.imgur.com/E47w58F.jpg 4.8% ABV 330ml bottle, 50p from the Co-op (date-expired stock)

Brewed in the UK for Samuel Adams of Boston Mass... I had picked this up thinking it was brewed in my local town of Boston Lincolnshire :haha:

A very dark golden colour with a huge frothy head, this doesn't look at all like a lager beer. But not bad at all, it even has a bitter taste... altogether it's more like an IPA

Pheasantry Brewery "PA" Pale Ale

https://i.imgur.com/BO9lrSs.jpg 4% ABV, £2.20 from The Co-op

Hoppy, crisp and dry with a bit of a citrus tang... almost a cross between an ale and a lager in its taste

This is a very smooth and refreshing beer brewed in Nottinghamshire, to be served "cool not cold"

Jimbuna 07-30-19 12:58 PM

Purchased a box each of Goose IPA and Goose Midway Session IPA the other day (The IPA is already mentioned on page 11 #164).

The Session IPA has the brightest hop aroma and the lowest bitterness of the two making it my favourite of the two.

ASDA currently have them both at £5 for a box of four cans and a free glass (rrp £3) with each box purchased.

Hoppy and malty, a tingling bitterness lingers on the tongue after drinking this refreshing golden ale

Batemans "Triple XB"

This is a fine, refreshing pale ale with an amazingly zesty twist of fruit-juice flavour

A full-bodied stout with a velvety mouthfeel. Bursting with aromas of roasted malt and chocolate.

Four for £6 at ASDA

Here is another I picked up yesterday.

Again, four for £6 at ASDA.

First brewed in 1998 to celebrate Shepherd Neame's tercentenary, this copper-bronze, bottle conditioned beauty is an intense yet uniquely intricate offering thrice-hopped during the brewing process. This adds rich resinous notes and spikes of citrus to a moreish strong ale already rife with notes of liquorice, Marsala wine, caramel and spicy orange. A frisson of dark fruit freshens the finish.
This ale has Protected Geographical Indication, the same unique regional protection afforded to Champagne and Parma Ham.

Very nice indeed.
