I kinda complained (sorry thats the wrong word..more like asked nicely) back in 1.03 for a way to lighten night.

Before the flames start hear me out... I used to play on a 21" CRT and night was just right. At 800m I could BARELY make out a ship on a clear skied night.

Then I got a DELL 19" LCD (about 2 yrs ago?) that isnt the Ultra sharp type. Now night time is SO dark I cant even see a ship 100m in front of my sub... I can barely see the bow of my boat at night or even my Watch Officer who is 2m in front of me when on the bridge. And this is playing in a dark room, at night, sitting 12" in fronnt of my monitor. It is just a really crappy monitor when handling contrasting dark colors.

I could jack the gamma up at night, but because SH3 will not allow me to ALT-TAB out of game, there is no way for me to turn it down in the daytime and daytime everything is washed out big time.

I'm not an expert on this aspect of the game, so what I propose may not be feasible, but I can't see why someone (from the GWX team or wherever) couldn't post the offsets and setting boundaries for the file(s) that control the night sky in such a way that all SH3Cmdr users need to do is copy and paste to their "Static settings.cfg" file, tweaking within the boundaries as necessary to create a brightness that suits their computer.

Sure, this is essentially the same as telling someone to d/l one of the numerous dat file tweakers and changing the file(s) themselves, but this is much easier (especially for computerphobes) as all players need to do is copy and paste the settings into SH3Cmdr and then forget.

Just a thought. ;)

@Faamecanic...Not an area I am very knowledgeable on I'm afraid. I purchased a 22" LCD last year and am not experiencing similar issues. Just lucky perhaps.
I know Alt + Tab + Windows works for me (XP Pro), or try adjusting your screen settings, unless someone else can offer advice on a solution.

I mentioned it in the main GWX thread, but I thought I'd repeat it here: I find the motion of the ships to be excessive. The battleship in Kiel rocks like a rowboat! I don't think they're moving too much, but I'm certain they're moving too fast. Even though I have the waves set for 2x via SH3 Commander, it still doesn't seem right to me.

Tis not easy to fix
IIRC that particular ship plus many many like it suffer from " sinking ships bug "
That is to say if you sail back to port when you get there they are half sunk making all the noises associated with sinking
Maybe some could live with that but also affected shipping in convoys
Sight a convoy then lose contact for whatever reason - when you regain contact again a lot of the ships real low down in water
A few even sunk ( the PPL IIRC again )
The problem started in stock and as ppl used those ships to create their own from them the problem continued
Getting worse in some cases
Of course it was fixable but then you get some other side effects as you mention
They can possibly be fixed but is down to time and manpower at the end of the day
Something we are lacking in both departments at the mo due to RL issues

PM me the exact ship and will look at or get a technomage to have a look
No promises mind

Going back to that old unsinkable ASW phenomenon, I recently snuck up on a T - Class sub just north of Scapa-Flow, fired my last fish, hit it bang central, got busy with the deck gun and nothing, it just sat there doing nothing. My nav map didn't show a red marker but my log records it as 1220 tons in my favour. How odd, and such a strange looking thing as well. Went to Uboat.net which states that the T-Class has 10 tubes, 6 front, 2 rear & 2 midships, and a crew of 56 !! Damn glad I got there first. Lol

My Dell LCD was the last of "dimmer" LCDs they sold. About a month after I bought mine Dell went to the FPW series of LCDs and they dont seem to have a problem handling contrasting "dark" scenes. Waaay back when GW1.03 was out the only people that REALLY had a problem with the darkness was folks with Dell 2001FP LCD monitors.

My problem is if I turn up contrast or brightness on the monitor then it washes out anything in normal light.

What I NEVER thought of was keeping a window open so I could ALT-TAB (or using the windows key like someone suggested) so I can turn Gamma up at night, and back down in the day. I do this with a few other programs for the same darkness reason (World War II Online being one of them), just never thought to do it with SH3.

In the above post I mistakenly posted we were testing the final beta of GWX2.1

That is not in fact the case......on reading back this post I realised I had inserted the word 'final' in error

What I should have stated was 'we are currently testing a beta and a release will be ready.....when it's ready'

My bad :damn:

Normal transmissions will resume as soon as possible. http://www.psionguild.org/forums/ima...ies/pirate.gif

Hey GWX crew!
A short Q for you:
I read somewhere on the forum about some small fix for GWX2 that you have released, something about the patrolcraft sinking themselfs with DC or something, I wonder if this is an official release and will it it be included in 2.1??
Keep up the good work, I'm still getting suprised by all the cool stuff you guys have added in GWX! Not to mention the first time I was sneaking up on a merchant in the pitch black night, getting real close to fire my deck gun, and suddenly BOOM, BLINDED BY FREAKING SEARCHLIGTS!!! (My guess is that's your work?)
Great work guys, indeed, great work!!

The patch for the PCTrawler is at the GWX website.
There is a full fix in 2.01

bracer 02-18-08 07:07 PM

Oops.... Should have checked your homepage first...
Found it:Armed Trawler CTD fix
Can this be installed when on patrol??

Ok, thanks mate!
I'll probably wait for 2.1 then, since I haven't experienced any CTD with GWX yet!!
