Nothing like it used to be and not even brewed in the north east anymore.
I'll always remember the day I was in Texas for a SubSim Meet and Todd, Grant. Jeff, Nancy and myself walked into a Houston bar called The Flying Saucer. My eyes immediately focused on a Brown Dog pump so I ordered a glass for each of us boasting it was an excellent Geordie traditional beer. Lets just say.....it hadn't travelled well. |
Just had a nice cold McEwan's Headspace Scotch Whisky Beer 500ml....:yeah:

568ml bottle from Aldi. A pale golden pour with a short-lived fizz; sweet apple juice aroma; rather thin with a crisp green apple taste; and a fresh dry dessert apple finish with a touch of tartness. Excellent value, and on a par with the major brands.

Shipyard Rye Pale Ale
Clear red/brown with an off-white/beige head. Creamy texture. Mild taste of malts, grain and a gentle bitterness. Quite drinkable. https://i.imgur.com/KnMwMIN.jpg |

Got 2 big boys sitting in my fridge. They are waiting for me to leave for work so they can have these
Lynchburg Natt Barrel Aged Porter (Ægir Brewery) https://media-cdn.tripadvisor.com/me...rewery-pub.jpg and Barley Wine (Lervig, 2017) https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/i...SWMDIVz7TwSL3Q After buying the latter I figure this craft beer thing is pricy, I might go for a cheaper hobby, like collecting 30 y.o. single malts... Ok, I REALLY want to try it but it's gonna be a one time only buy for me. |
Took the wife out for a meal the other night and seeing as we were eating Italian I decided on the obvious themed choice which was also the most expensive in probably any bar you go to.

Robinsons "Ginger Tom"

"Old Tom... Strong Ale" is embossed on this small (330ml) bottle... but what a huge taste: dark and malty, mixed with a powerful and aromatic taste of real ginger. A totally unique and wonderful flavour 6% ABV; £1.29 from B&M Stores |

https://i.imgur.com/eXnAtZw.jpg £2.15 at the Co-Op Stores; 4.2% ABV
"Brewed since 2012 to support the British Hedgehog Preservation Society", this is a light refreshing ale, not particularly hoppy and not bitter yet not sweet either. It develops an enormous creamy head when poured |
