Good move Anton, to XP, much better than Vista. You may have to reformat the drive from scratch i fear. I had to do that on one of my systems, well my tech did. I will ask him tomorrow for hints.

It was a joy and also somewhat painful to study those movies close up and find pics, i know some veterans from the IJN, and they have tried to describe their experiences to me, but there is nothing like seeing things with ones own eyes, the daily life and the ship board reality of those men, their fellowship and their young young faces.....and such fervor and faith. Truly we were two great nations, the US and Nippon and both so true to their own ideas, it was a great tragedy that we ended up in that conflict and so much bravery and courage and absolute loyalty to duty ....on both sides....

i have heard this from both sides in veterans i know, and great respect between them then..and now. thanks again to both you and to Keltos for getting this to us all, it is ...a very moving experince. I have more pics but had to take some time to be with my feelings that were raised by this experince..... before posting.

.. you know the japanese had the largest subs in ww2, and some with between 120 - 155 men on board. On average about 100 men maybe..Their hulls were much thinner then the german ones, so they could not dive as deep... I can't imagine when one of these went down.. The war was horrible.. The ocean took tens of thousands and left no trace..

anyways, let me know if you can help me with my PC,

The system is an Acer Aspire 15.6" 5735-4401 model, and it's got 4 Gigs if Ram, therefore it came with the 64bit version of Vista. Let me know if you can help.

ps: some of this propaganda in these films we could use as radio broadcast in the game..

Ok I will ask him, I am a dummy about tech but i have a really good tech and i will ask him if it is possible and how to put XP on there.

ys, knew that about the big I 400's and some of the other big boats. We found a journal by a US Naval officer who was on prize crew of one of them, and I am hopeful we can get a copy of the whole thing.

I think the movie has already helped Keltos a lot he has been working with it diligently and got sounds and lots of info off of it, it is a wonderful resource....

will see about the XP thing and let you know if i can find anything out.

yes indeed, I didn't release it to the whole community because of probable copyrights for the movie : although it is from 1942, it has been digitized by a japanese company.

It is one of its kind, a true documentary of an IJN sub during a war patrol, and they picked one that was also very successful which was also rare at the time : sinkings, night gun battle etc..

The things we'd need are the logs from the I-1 for instance...
http://www.pacificwrecks.com/ships/subs/I-1.html

but over 200,000 pages of the remaining code books, charts, manuals, the ship's log and other secret documents fall into Allied hands
http://www.combinedfleet.com/I-1.htm

where are those pages now ??

and those pictures taken by usn personnel inside the captured IJN submarines in 1945-1946. They must've been released to the public by now, as have the USN reports of the mission to japan in 1946, the original of the pictures seen in those microfilms must still exist somewhere.

Were I still living in the US, I would try and get access to those, but it's a bit harder from Belgium :( I asked a few times on this forum if someone from the US could do that for me, but that was to no avail...

I made the depth gauge seen in the above pictures as well as a couple dials taken from real IJN sub instruments sold on ebay last month. My problem is the dials don't show up ingame (dials1.dds) so until I find which ones are used on the german boats, it's no use changing them.

Have you seen the movie "Loreiel - the Witch of the Pacific" ? Some of the dials and equipment on that japanese boat is German, just like on uboats. That Submarine itself, is I-507.. the 500 class, larger then anything built before, and with 2 huge canons on the foredeck.. I wonder if this was a Japanese secret project for an even larger boat then the I400 class.
That movie is worth watching. (unfortunately its in japanese, and I have the danish, swedish, and norwegian subtitles.. anything but english :p )

As i have stated somewhere else :

It is the french submarine Surcouf - a cruiser type submarine - wishfully taken over by the german - hence the dials - and give to the japanese at the end of the war with a special weapon to prevent a third atomic bomb of being launched against the Empire of Japan.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surcouf_(N_N_3)

I have the movie : bought it at a gas station for 9.99 euros.

ok I modified those two : I now have a japanese telegraph in the conning tower :DL

but in the main room under it it is still german stuff... and they all have different sizes ! 122, 244, 306 pixel width...

and this one : data\menu\gui\layout\dials1.dds

http://img261.imageshack.us/img261/6093/dials1js6.jpg

where does it go ? what does it do ?

how did the devs find their eggs in all that ? oh yeah right, they didn't ! :har:

keltos

tater 02-10-09 12:59 PM

Well, "CT" is obviously "Conning Tower."

Look for all the similarly named stuff, sans "CT."

Not bad at all, - can we improve the texture on the MG magazines a bit? look good

Maybe these books will help you somewhat. I want that 2nd one. It's got submarine profiles (such as we need for the weapon loading screen in SHIV). maybe we can optain author's permission..)
