Hi there. I've been reading this thread for a good part of half an hour, and I just wanted to make sure I understood correctly how this is going to work:

- Basically flags and pennants are triggered by the OBS scope.
- On the surface with the OBS scope raised it will show victory pennants on the OBS scope and a flag on the flagpole on the aft bridge.
- On the surface with the OBS scope lowered there won't be any flags or pennants since real uboats didn't fly flags unless they left or entered harbor.
- There will be no way to just show the flag without the pennants or vice versa.
- When submerged the boat will fly neither pennants or flags even if the OBS scope is raised, unless the OBS scope breaches the water surface to a point were a pennant is attached. Then these top pennants may become visible and disappear as soon as the OBS scope submerges again.

Sounds great! Impressive as always.

That kind of was the case until I got an email from Privateer informing me of a controller that I was not aware of. Adding that controller and after much digging and searching on how to use it the Pennants are now controllable. They are still attached to the observation scope but now you can raise the observation scope and have no pennants.....until you press the 'x' key (raise snorkel). Then magically the pennants start to rise like a proud sailor raising his colors on their ship. Lower the observation scope (with the pennants raised) and everything starts lowering until it all disappears down into the sub.
You all need to thank Privateer for the heads up he gave me on this controller.

Flakmonkey gave me his permission to incorporate his most excellent TwistyPeriscopeThingy mod into this Flags & Pennants mod. Here are some screenies:

http://static3.filefront.com/images/...nkudsnowpe.jpg

and the reflections of Flakmonkey TwistyPeriscopeThingy mod with the Flags & Pennants. Kinda hard to see but it's there:

All that's left now is animating the pennants. :|\\

Just a thought, this is very impressive, looking forward to the finished item, I've been away from SH3 threads for a while, SH4 has been so well moded its worth playing now, so I been touring the Pacific, though I miss the Atlantic and am just waiting on the next installment from the GWX team when I shall return.

A question re the pennants, do thery fly all the time, like when submerged and you raise your perescope above the waterline do the pendents come up too. Do the number of penants change as youy sink more ships, ie more pennants. I thought they only flew them when returning to port.

Also, re the flags on the Wintergarten, this is a breakthrough, but wouldnt it be more realistic for the Kreigsmarine flaf to be attached to the flag pole via a halliard like the pennants are flying from a hallyard not attached directly to the perescope

Just a thought, great mod

Good question. IIRC the pennants were only shown when entering harbor and then normally the scopes would be raised as well while the snorkel remained lowered.
Another question just so that I understand correctly: if I left the harbor with a raised OBS scope and lowered snorkel, the boat would show the flag, and if I pressed 'x' the pennants would be raised (and the snorkel too if it were fitted), right?

There is a bug once the snorkel is available and visible on the sub. The snorkel will work as normal but the pennants will not rise. I'm working on a solution.

If the snorkel isn't fitted to your sub then you are correct. If it is then the bug listed above is apparent. I may move the key sequence that controls the pennants to the radar or something. Not sure yet. If I can get the pennants to rise with the snorkel I'll probably leave it this way. Not 100% realistic but there's trade-offs with what can be done with what is available.
