Quickly switching gears again to hockey, I was in Chicago at the United Center to watch my Predators take on the Blackhawks tonight. Was a decent game, but not so proud to say that the 'Hawks took the second half of the home-and-home, 3 - 1.
That being said, I was pleasantly surprised that the building appeared to be sold-out. As much as I typically despise all teams from Chicago, I'm glad to see NHL hockey making a comeback in an Original Six town. Most of the fans were great to talk to and the team seemed inspired. Kudos, Chicago! Heh, then again, GO PREDS!!! http://predators.nhl.com/ext/wallpap...x600Tootoo.jpg |

http://rds.yahoo.com/_ylt=A0geu9cjnW...fv=zrxTjgFYoU8 Tom Dempsey's shoe. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...om_dempsey.jpg "We should have had the lead, but we were trailing 17-16 with just seconds left in the final quarter. The Lions had kicked a field goal to go ahead, and Don Heinrich, our offensive coordinator, called downstairs and told the coaches to have me get ready because we were going to play for a field goal. I don't think anyone had a 63-yarder in mind, but I knew all along we were going to try for a long one. Our plan was to receive the kickoff and get out of bounds. Then the plan was to throw a sideline, pass to get out of bounds again and stop the clock, and send the field goal team out. That's exactly what happened. Out we came. By now, the stadium was half-empty. A lot of people had left thinking we had lost the game. That was one of our smaller crowds of the year, but I think 300,000 people have claimed to have been at that game. We lined it up, and I didn't even look up to see how far away we were. I didn't want to know. I just wanted to put my head down and kick it as hard as I could. A lot of people probably didn't think we could do it; the Lions probably didn't think we could do it." I was there in the upper Steel deck of Tulane Stadium just below the press box. My Dad was in the Press box because he covered the games for WDSU Channel 6 and the tickets were comps. Many people were leaving because the Lions had just kicked a field goal to take the lead 17-16. Even more people started to leave when the ensuing kick off sailed through the end zone for a touch back with just 11 seconds left on the clock. Billy Kilmer threw a perfect down and out to stop the clock with 2 seconds on the saints own 45. This sent more fans to the exits because the Saints were lining up for a 63 yard field goal! Not me. At 15 years old, I was an optimist and my Dad had told me earlier that year that Dempsey had the leg to break the record for the longest field goal. The kick was perfect. The goal post could have been 6 feet wide and Tom still would have drilled it. The fans went nutz! The river of people in the exits reversed course and the stadium filled back up. The Upper deck was rocking from the stomping of thousands of feet(in the upper deck at Tulane stadium you could make the stadium shake if every one pounded their feet at the same time on the steel deck). Tom not only kicked the longest field goal in history but he helped the Saints win for only the second time that year. |
The Chargers are still a better team ... one flukie tipped pass after a 64 yard kick off run back cost the entire third quarter coupled with a flukie punt that lands on a Charger helmet trying to block for the run back, plus only 15 yards rushing without LT.
Excuses true ... at least we made it that far. I'm happy ... I actually feel free of not having a team to cheer for this week, but if I did ... surely the Baltimore Ravens with a rookie coach and a rookie quaterback would be my favorites for the Super Bowl. Arizona shocked me as I sat there watching mistake after mistake by North Carolina  Are the Cardnials good enough to beat the Eagles ... I don't think so, but I have been wrong before :yep: |
Sorry Geetrue, I watched Pittsburgh vs the Chargers, and San Diego were always scratching their heads.
|
Looked to me the Chargers could not shutdown the throwing game Pitt has. It will probably be the same demise for the Ravens if they do not shutdown the Pitt throwing game.

I read someplace, that the bucs let Chuckie go.
Nevermind, here it is. Too lazy to delete:doh: . http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_yl...v=ap&type=lgns http://blogs.msg.com/gameon/images/2...enchucky_2.jpg |
Couldn't have happened to a nicer mannequin, ah, I mean guy. For some reason, I've always not liked Herr Gruden very much.:D

So Steelers or the Birds? Who's going to win?
|
Steelers, but the way Arizona is playing you never know....
Should be an interesting game. RDP |
Steelers all the way. They have a tough passing game to beat. Chargers could not handle it and either could the Ravens. I knew that would be our demise....with exception of some crappy ref calls and of course Flacco getting picked off. Rothelsberger has good protection and friggin 10 minutes in the pocket to find a receiver. When he gets hurried, he just flicks it out and sometimes the ball is just pushed out only to find a team mate to catch it. I predict a blow out.
On the lighter side, I'm happy with the Ravens. A number 6 seed playing the number 2 seed for the championship. That means a lot. Next year will be all that much better. How long until next season starts? :hmm: Thus ends a very exciting season here in good ole'Bawlmar. Hon......... |

The Ravens need to work on their defense starting line. Although they are number 2 in defense, these guys are getting quite beat up. Other than that, we loose a coach to the Jets and that is another avenue that the Ravens need to walk.
