Well, I was 50/50 last week, and my Super Bowl prediction has been chopped in half, so my picks are....
the NFC Championship game Saint vs Bears: sorry Bort man, I think the Saints are the team of destiny. Da Bears are missing key men in their defense, and they struggled against the Seabirds. Bush, the Deuce... lightning and thunder. Saint win and advance to Super Bowl 41. AFC Championship game Colts vs Patriots: wow, I thought the Chargers would be here, and if they had saved one timeout and put their kicker another 10yds closer, they would be. But, they aren't, so even though the Colts are having nightmares where some raspy guy keeps whispering, "The Patriots are coming... the Patriots are coming...", I think the Colts will beat them. Isn't Saint Vinatieri wearing a horseshoe on his helmet now? |

As an aside, I really am looking forward to the NFC championship game, I think it will be very, very close, and unlike the AFC game it is being contested by the two teams I think are the best in the conference on every level. May the best team win and go on to show the AFC what's what!:arrgh!: |

Based on the fact that San Diego had a 14-2 record coming into the playoffs, and Baltimore having a 13-3 record ? I submit that the best team, or more accurately, the better team of a pair in a single game, is the one that knows how to take advantage of the opportunities presented to them to win - both over the entire course of the game, and in so-called "big play" situations - and doesn't make critical mistakes in those situations. The Patriots, while behind for most of the game, hung with the Chargers for the whole game, and surmounted that game-long deficit by taking advantage of a couple of key mistakes by San Diego - most notably, the fourth-down interception that should have just been slapped down, but was instead stripped and recovered by the Patriots, starting their game-tying drive and keeping them squarely in the game. The Colts, while not scoring any TDs all game against the Ravens, played the better field-position game against an overrated offense. Also, a little background on the Chargers' and Raven's record: The rest of the teams in the Chargers' AFC West were mediocre at best - the Chargers only lost one game in their division - and looking back at their schedule, it was pretty soft. Ditto for the Ravens' schedule and the AFC North. They each had some impressive wins over decent-to-good teams, but go look at the rest of their schedules and you'll see what I mean. (By the way, I'm not saying that the Pats' and Colts' schedules were oh-so-hard, but I was impressed by more of their wins than I was by those of the Chargers' and Ravens'.) As for the NFC... 7 out of the last 10 Super Bowls have been won by the AFC. The AFC has been the dominant and most competitive conference with the best quality of gameplay for a long time. (Here's an interesting stat: This season, the AFC had eleven teams at or over .500, while the NFC only had nine.) I am actually originally an Eagles fan, but since moving to New England some years ago, I became a Patriots fan, so I watch both conferences with interest. By and large, I am not impressed with the quality of play I see in the NFC, even from the conference leaders, which is disappointing for the NFC-half of my brain. My prediction for this weekend - and i never make predictions, and for good reason - is that both road teams will upset their hosts. TG |
That's a great post timmygOO ... Boy, you know your football ...
I would agree with the soft schedule for the Chargers ... Oakland x2, Tenn, 49ers, Arizona, Cleveland, plus beating Denver on it's down leg side twice and everybody beat Seattle in Seattle near the end of it's schedule ... That's nine games right there. I hate to say, "wait till next year" for the Chargers, but I have no options left. Go Chargers 07 and Marty's last year might end with at least another chance. I pick the Colts for it's great coach (except for the time out in Tennesse of course) and Manning is at his peak ... it's now or never. I'm starting to worry about those Saints ... I think I'll go with the Bears for this one ... Just because Grossman can't really be that bad, can he? |
thanks for the compliment gee, but I don't know half the football I wish i knew, and I personally know people that have forgotten more about football than I'll ever know. I'm just another amateur football pundit.

Well, congrats to the Bears. There's no denying that they won fair and square, and the Saints can't blame anyone but themselves. I'm just glad that the Saints made it as far as they did.

Now... THE BEARS ARE GOING TO THE SUPER BOWL WOOOOOT WOOOOT! http://espn-i.starwave.com/media/app...5201212328.jpg Rex played average throughout but made the plays when they were sorely needed. Its Da Bears two great running backs and a defense that buckled down to suffocate the Saints that won the game, and can win the Bears the Super Bowl. This is really really surreal for me, I was born in 1985 and I did go to a game that year but for obvious reasons I cannot recall the greatest team ever. So for the entire time I have been able to follow the Bears they have been a mediocre or worse club, rarely rising to the playoffs only to be knocked out early. I still can't believe I will be able to watch them play in the biggest game of then all... |
Goooooooo Bears!!
|
Holeee Crap! Looks like I jinxed both the Saints and The Colts--Manning just got burned for 6!
