Your save game will be in My Documents\SH3\data\cfg\Careers then open your career name
then you will have numbered folders 0 = 1st patrol 1 = 2nd patrol and so on Then click on your save[/quote] Hi and thanks for that, bigboywooly; you've come to my rescue again ! :D |
And thanks also to you, FatBhoyTim..it all went smoothly (It's easy when you know how..unfortunately I don't so have to keep asking about things all the time !)

We've all been there :yep: |
My first experience with 'SH3Gen' ..told me to check out 'Los Palmos' on the way to grid so did and discovered loads of stuff, all flying Spanish flags ! But you'll never guess who I bumped into at the quayside.. the Band and the rest of the Motley Crew ! My Question is did the Geneva Convention allow a German Band to play at a Neutral Port ?! :rotfl:

Every time you use Sh3Gen it must read the whole campaign files before it can prepare your patrol report, meaning that if there is a single problem in one of the files there will be an error. I am not handling this kind of error because that would mean wiping problems under the carpet, and prevent me from seeing what went wrong on the users end side. People would tell me that it works fine while in fact the parser is throwing up 90% of the campaign data. One thing I can guarantee you is that if you get it to run once, you will be able to generate 100s of patrol reports in succession, and without problem. This is because the first time it runs, it has parsed the whole data, and has found no problem with it. The kind of problem you are having is not a bug per se, rather Sh3Gen not being able to handle some new form of data. OK after the confusing introduction we can try to work out a solution to your problems. First the usual questions: - Do you use DotNET 1.1 or 2.0? - can you send me the exact error message? (it can be copied from the debugger window, look at page 1 of this thread how people did it since day 1) -which campaign mod are you using? - have you tried with different savegames, different Sh III installations, different campaign layers? - when does the error occur - when you start Sh3Gen or when you run "Generate"? This problem is almost certainly caused by a new modification to one of the campaign files. I don't need to know any other mods you are using besides ones that change one of the following three files: Campaign.LND Campaign.RND Campaign.SCR Installing a mod package without any smaller, or self made modifications should do the trick. Always keep a backup copy of stock ShIII+Grey Wolves before you start experimenting with SHIII. Don't hesitate to ask me questions. I will try to help. GE |
Bigboywhooly has supplied me with a very good list of british H, U ans S-class submarines, meaning that I could extend the patrol information to non-axis submarines. The question remains, to what extend is this included in any current major mod, or who is using british submarines and/or heavily modded german wolfpacks (sergbutos ai uboats)??
I would like to have this in the program soon, but only if the campaign mods are up to it yet. |
Version 0.7.1
GE:
It works like a charm, as usual. Thanks |
GE, sorry to ask as I've just gotten the SHII Gen .0.7.0. I see no readme in the zipfile. I haven't been following the info on it all that much. Been away for a bit and just got back into SHIII a few weeks ago, and now decided to install it. I do have DotNET 1.1 installed.
Question, does it automatically find SHIII and your campaign/career, or is there a certain way to install other than just running the exe? Only asking so I don't screw it up. I might be wrong but I think it works as SHIII Commander does... separate folder from SHIII. |
Im right in assuming this works with GW right?

To install, just double click the installer, install it to where you like (c:\Program Files\Sh3Gen is the best) and then double click the Sh3Gen icon on the desktop. It basically just xcopy deploys, so nothing complicated going on. You also find most information on my website, though I admit I don't specifically explain installation. Quote:
The readme and other files will be copied to your install directory. You can read it online: http://www.global-explorer.de/contentpage_readme.htm Good luck with it. Thanks, GE |

Long answer: I have personally play tested with GW 1.0, and I still use that for debugging. Many users worldwide have downloaded and used versions 0.5 and 0.6 with different campaigns and I have not heard of any incompatibility for about six months. I would be very surprised if it wouldn't run with the current version of GW because some people from the GW team (VonHelsching in particular) have supported me and said to be using Sh3Gen on a regular basis. But still, there is always the remote possibility of an incompatibility. If you are getting errors when running the program with a clean installation of a newer mod, please contact me, because it's possible that Sh3Gen is not able to parse the campaign data. |
Thanks GE.... ~S!~
No problem on not having a readme for it. I just felt kinda dumb asking. I just didn't want to mess SHIII up...as I usually do. I'm on my 4th try to go all the way thur a career. I've done stupid stuff trying to hurry installs in the previous trys and had to start all over again. Didn't want to take the chance again. Installing now. :) |
