If i was in charge of this id just put the high res alot of detail as the standard on the mod and if people whine about it have a lower res less detail version for the camera junkies. So all they have to do is install it and thier a go. putting down guys work because of some small little thing is pointless.
I so realize this engine is still getting figured out as far as modding and such, so maybe sometime down the road thier will be a perfect fix or techique to achieve both missions. Ive been testing this stuff, it looks great, we can what if this to death. I think the modders have it taken care off and u guys shouldnt worry about peoples opinion.
Leo dont worry so much about the end result as far as complaints and such, this mod had already earned much more accolades than the game itself, and any other mod. So u guys be proud and go with ur gut feeling and leave options for people who want things alittle different than most.

Anyways im having a blast with what work u have given me Leo, give my thanks and highest compliments to ur team.

Jonesy:rock:

Well said Jonesy! I thought Seedlers work was good. It looked good from the conning tower where you're probably going to play most of the game. I'd rather have high res and details with a 'quilt' effect than no 'quilt' and either low res foam or out of scale foam that makes your boat look like its been made by Tamiya or Revel.

Wish I'd started posting and told seedler how good his work was, didn't know there were so many complaints about the repeating texture and then he pulled his threads.

Leo I know that sea foam comes in different sizes and shapes etc. Thought that the pic would show a good generic scale for the sea foam. Bet you've been looking at so many images of sea foam you see it everytime you close your eyes! lol!

The latest pics are looking very good think its looking better by the day!

P.S. The high stormy seas look execellent no more deck gunning in storms now!

There is something I need to explain about the lightning

Somewhere in the save file folder for SHIV there is a type of Cache file that carries over into every single save that can screw up the lightning from working in the Campaign layers.

Because the lightning didn't work in the game from the get go it makes a problem with it working every where in the game.

The only way I could get the lightning to work in my own game was to actualy Delete the save game folder for SHIV and let it build a new one once the game was started again after the lightning work was installed using JSGME then start a new campaign from the begining.

If this is not done there will only be lightning effect's in single mission set up that have storms.

Because the save files that store this information have nothing to do with quick missions only campaign layers.

There is no thunder unless and actual lightning strike happens and the distance is set up to run as close as 50 meters away from the sub to far enough away where a High fog bank can really mask it out. But like the sun's glare effect I have not found away to make it not show up through the subs hull so that is the only glitch I know of. If you have realistic sound travel running in your game it can get a little creapy and seem like there are a lot of lightning strikes happening at a time due to distance of strikes plus there are 4 differn't actual strikes and each one tends to change in one way or another in pattern the way I have them set up.

Zoolander

Ahh its in the computer:damn: no biggie im starting an all new campaign/career anyway, i was still wondering about the lightning since i havent been in a big storm yet. If i see some now ill take some picts and send em this way.

Gotta agree with mrbeast's and Jonesy's posts about the "quilting".

Sure, I mean the quilting looks like crap, but hey I'm playing a sub sim, not a flight sim!!! If it was a mod for Flight Simulator X, it would be an issue since 99.9% of your time is spent at least 1000 feet up. But it's a sub sim, and 99.9% of my time (with external views, anyway ;) ) is spent on the bridge, or with the external free cam low and close to the water so it's a non-issue.

The ONLY time "quilting" would affect me would be when I "cheat" and use the free cam to try and search down a distant radar/sonar contact to see what it is. IMHO, the people who wanna play with the camera at 2,000 feet altitude might be better off with a good flight sim ;)

And people wonder why there's no SH4Cmdr by JScones.

These guy's do what they can with the tools at hand to make the game more enjoyable, they make Mod's, test them, remake them, retest them, tweak it here and there, they go over and over it 100x again and again prior of release.

You Download the Mod and see it's to you liking or not...
What do you do... Read theREADME.
(think this is large & bright enough for every one to see)

If the README doesn't give you an answer then you can go and ask around or delete it from your game, it's simple, use JSGME.

So please stop whining about "I don't like the quilting" or "I don't want this and that" or "Could you change/remove this and that cause I don't like it".
When released I'm sure there's going to be a README , SO READ IT!!!!

If the Mod isn't to your liking make one yourself, release it and see what comment you're going to get. It'll probably make you think twice about making another.

Remeber, they don't have to release anything, they can keep the Mod's to them selves if they which to do so.
It's because they love the game and want to improve it that they create Mod's.

If the modders want comment I think they'll ask for it or have a small groupe of Beta testers who will give them feedback which they can use to improve the Mod.

Sorry, but I fail to see how offering ones opinion, some critiques, or a suggestion, regarding a perticular feature constitutes whining.

No argument there.

Not to sound like an ***, but modding for any game, or for that matter the simple act of creating something, wether for profit or not, works along those lines of "if you can't stand the heat don't go into the fire." Because like it or not your going to get critisizims of all sorts, from all different types of people. So if one is fearful of critisizims from people outside their immediate modding/beta-tester circle, or attracting negative critisizim is going to discourage them from modding, then well perhaps they shouldn't be modding in the first place.

Thankfully, from what I can see, that isn't the case on these forums. And from what I've gathered most of the modders here are more than willing to hear critisizims from the community. Thats in no way saying they can accomadate everyones likes and dislikes, but they do try. And if they aren't able to satisfy a perticular person or group then someone else, or the disatisfied party, will.

To that end, keep pluggin' away guys, the works looking better every day.

Just a little update

I managed to get the crew on the Bridge to stop being see through for no fog states only. But as the fog slowly increases they become more and more transparent. So in heavy fog you can see through them pretty good. Have no clue why it changes their transparency yet have to keep digging I guess.

DirtyHarry3033 09-14-07 06:33 PM

I don't know how much stock I'd put in the complainers. Seems to me it's human nature to complain about something, if you get something and you don't like it there's a better-than-even chance you'll make your displeasure known.

But if you get something and it is so awesome it totally blows you away, odds are you'll be totally too engrossed in enjoying it to tear yourself away long enough to say "THIS IS FANTASTIC!!!!".

The number of people saying bad things will almost certainly outnumber the number saying good things, for that reason. Even if the product/mod/whatever in question is "perfect", it's certain that some people won't like it, and will be heard from, loudly and vehemently. Wouldn't suprise me at all if there are millionaires that order a Ferrari and wait 2 years for it to be delivered, and then chew Ferrari a new a-hole because they don't like the way the windshield wiper switch works...

With respect to mods, my opinion is simply this. I didn't have to pay for it, so if it doesn't live up to my expectations the ONLY thing I'm out is the time I spent to download and install. All I have to do to put things "right" again is simply uninstall it. No way I will bad-mouth someone else's freely-offered labor & efforts just because it didn't live up to what I hoped for.

OTOH, if I can think of a constructive criticism then I might throw it in - i.e. "Hey I think it might be better if you did this...". If the modder does it, great! But if he doesn't, well it's his mod, right? I don't have a "right" to expect him to do anything!

Just my opinion, and I should shut up now right?

Leo hope you're feeling better!

If you can crack that particular problem of the transparent watch crew, I do believe I'd get down and kiss your... er, well never mind! It's always annoyed me, having a crew that's sometimes solid and 100% there, and other times they turn into ghosts and I can see the stars thru 'em. Don't know if that's something UBI did deliberately, or if it's a graphic bug. I've heard both theories...

Oh and thanks for asking I am feeling better today a lot more rested DirtyHarry3033. Not perfect but well enough to work and tweek the files and get things tested.

I love the smell of burning vessel in the morning!

Sub reflections on the water.

I posted this one because the vessel on the left is not hit. The smoke you see is from the smoke stack. The smoke column can be seen from far off. An addition that was needed badly.

rcjonessnp175 09-14-07 07:42 PM

Nice

OMG, that is Fan-Freakin'-Tastic!!!! So you can spot ships hull-down over the horizon from their smoke? Agreed, a very badly needed feature :D

You beta-testers must LOVE teasing us nobodys with these screenies :rotfl::damn::rotfl::damn:

Keep 'em coming, I'm loving every one and can't wait for the magic [REL]
