Good old Oakland Soul Music. I refer, of course, to the TOWER of POWER. You got to Funkifize, What is Hip? and this one. I Still Be Diggin' on James Brown.

I saw them first 36 years ago at the Solano County Fairgrounds for $2.50. I've seen them 10 times over the years and they're still the bomb. I'm going to see them here Nov. 4 at Route 66 Casino. So Get up & Knock Yourself Out!

After all, what is hip?

sorry...a pre-caffiene moment.

Technically, they're not *exactly* the same...I screwed up the first one with the same url twice...but somehow managed to post another message when I thought I was just editing.

Oh well...that's what I get for thinking lol.

What are you talking about... Kirk was no hippie. As a matter of fact some hippies highjacked the Enterprise in one episode because he wouldn't play along with their hippie ways. Idiotic fools ended taking the Enterprise to a planet that proved to be poisonous to human life, and their "enlightend" leader, unable to cope with reality, killed himself by eating a poisonous fruit... some paradise they found for themselves :nope: .

I found that episode to be an incredibly deep comment on the whole hippie movement (the episode plays out a lot smarter than what I make out to be in such a short description).

Ask and ye shall receive. Here's Roy Rogers and the Delta Rhythm Kings. Roy used to play my high school dances in our younger days. In the film,"Searching For Robert Johnson", the rock & roll hall of fame went to Roy to illustrate Johnson's playing style.

another, Shake Your Moneymaker:

a third, a promo of him and harmonica virtuoso Norton Buffalo:

He has a website at:

If you don't like the blues, you got a hole in your soul.
