Ode to slow crush depth modding.
You can slow down the rate at which your sub looses hull integrity so you can dip below crush depth for limited times, but you'll slowly bleed H.I if you do.
Here's an intresting scenario that happened to me the other day in a single mission. Got pummeled by close depth charges while trying to go deep. Major flooding throughout the boat, bow and stern, but particuarlly the bow. H.I was about 60%, and boat was sinking, but i thought it was controllable, and i did get the flooding under control. And was BARELY able to maintain depth at about 120 meters, and this only by going to flank speed and putting the planes on full rise.
Thats when the 2nd barrage hit. major flooding all over again, and the boat started to dip by the bow and go deeper. Much deeper. Fighting to get the flooding udner control i noticed i was at a really steep down angle, and still sinking fast, thats when i tossed in the towel and started to emergency blow the ballast tanks. Boat was still dropping fast. Thats when i discovered that the 2nd barrage had DESTROYED the bow planes. STill being at flank speed did not help my prediciment. Eventually the depth meter pegged, and the only thing i could think of was, the voice of the cheif in das boat saying, "we've lost control". All the while the effects of the pressure could be seen and felt. Bursting glass, the lights flickering and the control room going dark on and off intermittedly.
Not willing to give up yet, i looked around and noticed still have the stern planes and an aft that was not heavy. I put the boat into emergecy reverse and blew what air i had left in the ballast tanks. Somewhere at 340 meters, she slowed down and hearing the voice from the cheif in das boat again, "She's risiing!".
So there i was, in full reverse, going backwards, to the surface. all the while the destroyers sending more depth charges causing more flooding. At about 40 meters, it looked like i might break surface, but alas, the next barrage destoryed me. Never got back to the surface, but i got pretty damn close.
