Yeah, thats how I feel about it too. There is no doubt they are an improvement over stock but, you know, it still just prettying up an aging graphic enginethat has long since seen better days.

Falcon 4 with Lockon's graphics - now that would be something. Actually, I haven't played lock on since I got my new computer 18 months ago. I might give it a spin and see how it looks.
Nothing beats Falcon for the sim experience though and I doubt much ever will. My thoughts on the tiles though is that they would have a lot more takers if it were only $4.95. What are they thinking with $20???

Mods are worth what you think they are worth. For F4 I bought three cockpits and the Hi Tiles because I thought they were worth it. The cockpits I still do. The Hi Tiles didn't last very long.

I still don't understand why they charge for them. i mean the guy re-did the ground, big whoop.......sure I bet it took a long time all by himself but so? He chose to do it.

I mean look at the things Teddy has done for SH3, he did alot more than "making the water look prettier" He re-did the entire damage model/gameplay/and made everything look better, and he DIDN'T charge..........

What is even more scary is that these guys defend the guy to the last stand. I don't see this guy to be anybetter than Xsoftware or whoever that wasy stealing mods and charging for them. Its scary what happens to people when they aren't informed.

You have the option to buy or not. Bitching about somebody selling their work is dumb. You vote with your wallet so why are you complaining? It's a simple decision for you. Do you want Hi-Tiles or not. Do you want to buy it or not? It's that simple.
Do I wish the mods I bought were free? Most certainly. Did I want those mods enough to pay for them? Yes. The cockpits are awesome.
As far as defending. I'm not defending anyone. It's a simple case of supply and demand. Yes or no!

Thats one of the things I like about AF: Aeyes' beautiful cockpits come as standard.

Actually, Dutch has me thinking (and not about the morality or whatever of buying mods): In the sim community, especially flight sims, payware mods are very common and, obviously a lot of work does go into them. Some of the payware aircraft our there for FS9 for example, have had hundreds and hundreds of hours put into them. What I'm wondering is why we don't tend to see it for other genres even though there are mods for different games that have had every bit as much love and work put into them.

Why IS it so common in flight sims and very few other genres?

I'm thinking that it's got a little to do about age ranges. I think the older crowd is the majority for flight sims and the older crowd generally have more ready cash than the younger crowd and are more likely to pay for these photo-realistic add-ons.

Yeah, thats pretty much what i think too. Mind you, Although I'm one of the 'older crowd' i think it would be pretty easy bankrupting yourself for FS9. I've already spent a small fortune on it and I've only had it a few months..

I would put no effort into looking for a illegal download to fix the terrian in the game (which should have been done in the first place but oh well), especially when its a mod from the community, and from a guy that demands that he be rewarded for his time and effort (not to say they shouldn't but hey he chose to make the mod, I can't help it if he bit off more than he could chew).

But if I accidentally came across a link to download it, or someone pointed me in the direction of something similiar, I certainly would "feel bad" about doing so.

No I am not endorcing stealing software, its pricks like those who steal that we have to put up with spyware *ahem* excuse me "hightech anti-theft ware" like Starforce, that in NO way invades you computer, and doesn't uninstall when you uninstall the product it came with.

I detect we have a Boston Tea Party in the software community going on!
