I really like that box tan shade over the blue :up:

This game will be released in Next month in USA. It sounds really good. At first I did not get it but then read a little bit more into it.

Things like Making Own Ships and Adding mods to them, actually planes too.
Building Bases, and Invading Japans bases with troops, planes, ships etc.

It almost sounds like Hearts of Iron with 3d graphics. (of course only Pacific part)

Can't wait to buy this now. :)

How the hell could I have missed noticing this :o

Going to have to try the demo now :arrgh!:

I've already completed the file unpacker for Pacific Storm. I'll make it available when the retail comes out here in NA.

Currently working on a graphical 2D mission editor for ocean battles. It will be able to create massive battles on a 100x100KM map using all units. It also supports a simple scripted language for those that want to manuever units this way. The editor is 70% complete at this date. It will be released in the next few weeks.

Pacific Storm hits Germany

Frogster interactive pictures, German publisher of Pacific Storm, the award winning combination of global strategy, RTS and flight simulation has made the announcement that had been long waited by our fans. Today, Pacific Storm hits trader's shelves all over Germany. The game is delivered along with 156 page manual, detailed unit overview in the poster format and Kamikaze headband.

The last time I got a headband as swag was over twenty years ago from the army. lol I think I've used those headbands more than anything else I've ever gotten for free, still have them today. The army lettering is long since gone though. :D Somebody let us know if the German full version contains StarForce?

malkuth74 09-03-06 11:52 AM

I wonder if we will get such a wonderful surplus of stuff with the American version. I doubt it since the American Distributor that is releasing the game sucks.

US date has been moved to sept 28.

No, StarForce was abandoned by both Frogster and CDV.

At last! I have been waiting for such game for ages since 1942 PAW.

The release date on play.com is somewhere in December.

GlobalExplorer 09-10-06 05:05 AM

I played the whole day yesterday (german version). Despite the great concept and the initial excitement I had, I would recommend to stay away from this game in it's present state.

It was fun for the first few hours when I started to build up my bases and develop my forces, but everything becomes a chore very quickly. There is too much of everything, and many things don't work. My transport fleet got grounded quickly because the AI is not able to supply the bases with fuel, so I had to do everything manually. The tactical battle was so bad that I almost smashed my mouse in anger. I had spent the whole day micromanaging to build up these forces and all I got as a reward was a huge mess of ships running into each other, planes not attacking and getting shot down entirely by enemy flak.

The guys who designed the user interface should be sent to the quarry for life. I am designing software myself and this is just a good example of how not to do it. Even people with great patience, eagle eyes, supreme cognition and reading skills will give up on this quickly. The average user will be completely repelled.

Needless to say that there are lots of technical problems as well. For instance, a whole week I couldn't play because the mouse would jump erratically whenever the game was paused, but everything was fine in real time (!). I had to enable VSYNC and make changes to the mouse driver to solve this.

All I want to do now is get over the game and forget it quickly. I hope I will not make the mistake of wasting another weekend with it. I might come back in a year or two to check if the sequel+mods have changed the situation.

P.S. If the game would come with 1/10 of the current number of units, (much) less workload in managing the strategic part, a working AI and less technical glitches, it could be immense fun (look at the TW series for how to achieve good balance). But my advice would be to start all over with this game, because the current code has too many design defects imo.

monkee 09-11-06 01:53 AM

I played the demo and my impression is that this game is simpler than Warplan Orange.

Malefactor 09-11-06 11:02 AM

I'm gonna have to give this one a try. :yep:

monkee 09-12-06 01:36 AM

@GlobalExplorer: Does Pacific Storm supports widescreen gaming?

Hunter 09-18-06 01:16 AM

@monkee: Sure:ping:

A wide system of upgrades including the option of producing nuclear or bacteriological weapons;

Bacteriological warfare an option ? Bah ! They crossed a 'dont go there' line for me....

I agree that I'd rather not see that in the game, although there a a historical precident for this, the Japanese dropped bubonic plague infected fleas and other nasty things over China during ww2 http://www.fas.org/nuke/guide/japan/bw/

First patch for German and English versions is planned for late October. If you have difficulties with playing campaign you may play historic missions or try battle planner. It allows easily arrange each historic battle in the Pacific.;)
