Ship Simulator appears to have better physics (including twin engine control) ....
But do not expect any damage model. My steel boat was rammed by a small tupperware sailing yacht, I was turned over and the yacht continued without a scratch :-)

That's true, there appears to be a financial penalty but it's unclear as yet as to the meaning of this in the game

Address this to the developers, VSTEP is a Dutch company headquartered in Rotterdam:lol:

The damage model of Ship Sim seems to be nonexistent and based on a monetary cost system. Virtual Sailor, you sneeze and you are sunk.
I do kind of like the missions in SS.
Problem with these type of games you play the hell out of them for a few days to a week then you never touch them again.

At £14.99 it's the same price as a movie which you watch for two hours and never watch again, a few days is still better than two hours, everything's relative.

Hi!

I have played the german version of ShipSim for about two weeks and never touched it again! :-?

What I was missing?!
Na, only some little unnecessary things like: The Ocean, Waves, Weather, Traffic, "Time of Day"... things like that.

But the developers sayed, those will be available in "ShipSim 2007"! :smug:

Maby they'll add some of these "features" to the international version of SS2006.

See ya! :arrgh!:

Hear, hear...

I like this concept a lot but I think I'll wait until 2007 when they finish it. I'll be happy to pay full price for something in this genre that includes some of these obvious basic "features" in it. The demo was very disappointing and as much as I would like to support this small "niche" market... I'd rather buy a DVD movie than pay for this game in its present state.

It gives me great sadness to have to rate this game with a big

Yes, weather has been included in the International version, to quote the site: "dynamic weather system including wind force and rain" on the forum they also said fog was included now too and judging by the amount of collisions people are talking about there may actually be too much traffic now!

If you have a German version I believe that you will be able to pay the difference between your version and the new international version and receive the extra features see the shipsim forum for details

Looks like release has been put back a week, Amazon and Play are now listing release date of 23rd June

Sonarman 06-15-06 10:46 AM

Update... Whilst the game seems to have been put back a week in online stores such as Amazon and Play it is available now directly from www.shipsim.com as a download or boxed edition by post with free p&p to anywhere on the planet.

Ok split up this thread. Try to stay on the topic of Ship Simulator 2006 please :) If you want to talk in general use the other thread :)

aha so a few of you have come across this.

potential is there.
currently way too pedestrian to be considered a "simulation".
Best used as "shiprace" or to merely enjoy scenery ...
One of the designers is quite happy that "even an 8 yr old can have fun within 10 seconds". so that should give you some idea of the difficulty level..

However, the background scenery is truly amazing. As a new yorker i am truly blown away by the NY harbor. On that level , the ability to just tool around NY harbor without the expense of an actual boat , its kinda ok...

There are some nice new skins for the customizable p6 here
www.shipsim.net

(note that ship 13 is corrupt - dont bother dl ing it.)

came across some links of other ship simulators that might be useful to some of you. they seem to be much more professional grade apps rather than games

If shipssim2007 incorporates things like this it may be a worthy buy.

without them it is a simulator in name only.

for those who havent tried this product and also play dangerous waters ive come up with a good comparison.

Imagine the contact madness scenario with show truth on, but without getting any actual info that should be provied by various systems.
go here go there yawn yawn .

this describes the entirety of the game.

Additionally the US retail version once installed takes up about 340 mb.
after dl - ing a 200 mb patch and a 130 mb patch the total in the folder is now around 390 mb. point being is that all that downloaded content was to replace rather the majority of the files contained on CD.
had i known i was dealing w a company that thinks it ok to sell a beta version ...
:grr:

ive just DL'd the v7 virtual sailor demo. www.hangsim.com

Ive yet to load it but it appears have everything the shipsim2006 community is asking for.

ie - dont buy the wrong game , like i did ;p

at least i was amused by the following review.
