I have always wonder why some people do thing like that?
If he or her, is somehow dissatisfied with this forum, why don't they just leave quietly? Markus |

Aces of the Deep was a good game, but hell give me Silent Hunter III anyday!

I see some comments about resolution and the fact it's a DOS game, don't forget graphics have nothing to do on how good a game is. Heck, I remember playing a very immersive/realistic WWI flight sim on pen and paper! |
Yes SH3 is not perfect it has its faults but for me i couldn't go back to AOD, i mean i played that game for like 2yrs then tried out sh1 then 2 and now 3.
Still i got an old Pentium growing cobwebs, who knows i might install AOD one day. |
I still played AOD while playing SHII, mainly because SHII had no career mode, and I consider that the deciding factor.
SHIII does, and with all the mods and tools I've installed I'm happy as a clam. You couldn't pay me to go back. Well, if you paid me I might, but... |

Hmmm. I'm still wary of SHIII due to the Starforce thing, so I'm sympathetic when someone goes back to AOD. I might get DOS box and install AOD and SHI if it's not too complicated. That's the big thing - if getting an old game to work on DOS box takes too many steps then it's just not worth it to me.
Meanwhile I'm playing SHII. But I'm edging closer to SHIII - I'm hoping they'll introduce a Starforce-free "gold" edition. :D |
Okay... As a SH3 noob... I can forgive someone droping back to AOD as it was my *favorite* sub game until now. I was extremely depressed when I upgraded the PC/OS and found I could not get it to work. After many hours of effort, I threw away the game, and moved on to WWII air sims (after many tears lossed).
I still am a very noobish player on SHIII as I have not had the time to play, but AOD *was* the bomb in it's day. Some day when work stops intruding into my real life, I expect to be a good sub captain..... and I may still re-buy AOD to have something lite to have fun with. Casper |

mount d d:\aod\ d: aod So basicaly only 3 steps, very easy stuff. As for SHIII and starforce, there is an easy way to remove it. But I can't talk about it here for fear of getting hit by lighting... :dead: Again, I'm sure you can figure it out :hmm: , PM me if you can't. |

So long suckas
Aces of the Deep was very immersive.
Actually SH III could have beaten that feeling if not for the many glitches in the first versions... |

Going back to Aces of the Deep???? :rotfl:
That's like saying you're going back to 'Pong'.....Oooooh SOoooo entertaining!! Actually, I hear they train space monkeys with 'Pong'. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: |
Actually AOD was, and is, a very good sim, but it's the visual and sonic immersion that glues me to SHIII. Call it eye candy if you like, and say it's not worth anything, but when I follow the flottengebleiter out of Wilhelmshaven or enter the Kiel Canal, and see all the traffic coming and going, I'm back in the real navy again, and though it's not the real thing it sometimes sure seems like it.

JESUS AOD
Man, i played that game and was number 1 in tonnage(after 3 missions)...
When i had my Pentium 200MMX 95, ghees let me think, 1992? |
AOD ????
I personaly prefer another simulation of two submarines with a depth charge between them. That one easily beats AOD you sukkas :D Click HERE for a screenshot |
When will these crazy kids learn that graphics don't make the game :nope:
But I must say...Having just finnished a couple of patrols in Aces and now returning to SHIII. SHIII gets my vote for better sim  But not ( just ) because of the graphics!! |
