I have no guns, so his collection is certainly better than mine. Freedom for firearms is not a good thing for us if idiots like Bush are able to have them. I belive you should have to pass some sort of rigorous "responsibility and intelligence" test to own even one gun. Bush would fail for sure.

Right on Bort

 The man that Cheney shot has now had a "mild heart attack" because of some birdshot that lodged in his heart.

Anybody think Cheney actually killed him and they're just going to make his condition worse and worse until he dies?

We were testing this new missile, and by God, ____ [oil rich country of your choice here] was in the line of fire and got peppered pretty good'.

Idiot.

Not yet, but I do know a moron when I see one, and I don't want them possessing deadly weapons.

But how can we trust your opinion regarding your moron spotting capabilities? Should we just take your word for it or should we give you a test of some sort?

My grandfather was 80 years old, had a pacemaker and had a nice gun collection. He taught me how to shoot and the "common" rules for firing a gun. Even though I'm a Republican, I feel that the VP was wrong in the aspects of this incident. It was both of their faults as I'm telling my wife. The lawyer for not announcing his presence if he was truely in the "arc" of fire, and the VP's for going after the bird that went outside his "arc" of fire. While hunting pheasant, my family always had a rule that if the bird flew into the 45 degree arc in front of you it was your shot. However, if it went outside the arc, you missed your chance. This was with a line of 5 people.

All it amounts to is a HUGE part of carelessness on the VP's part.

Look! Someone managed to post something without political overtones in this thread!

Weird that we are the first society in history that does not train our youths in the are of weapon handling.

It is all a conspiracy for complete control of all of us sooner or later! :dead:

I had a neighbor friend of mine who was 6 years younger than I who's father was a gun safety instructor. The teen participated in competition shoots, hunting trips, etc, etc. One day, he and a friend were downstairs in the basement with a pistol playing with it. He pointed it against his head, told the friend it wasn't loaded and then shot himself. Everyone kept asking why...why...why.

CARELESSNESS  :(

Now, sadly enough, the choice not to get the pellets out has led to this.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The 78-year-old lawyer wounded by Vice President Dick Cheney in a hunting accident suffered a mild heart attack Tuesday after a shotgun pellet in his chest traveled to his heart, hospital officials said. Harry Whittington was immediately moved back to an intensive care unit and will be watched for a week to make sure more pellets do not move to other vital organs. He was reported in stable condition.

Takeda Shingen 02-14-06 05:36 PM

Nothing that was truly Cheney's fault (at least in terms of the accident) but the initial attempt to sweep the problem away is quite typical of public officials. That, and he needs to get his license squared away properly next time.

Cheney Shooting Based On "Faulty Intelligence"?: The Moderate Voice

It’s open season on ‘Deadeye Dick’ : Fort Wayne Journal Gazette

"Good news, ladies and gentlemen, we have finally located weapons of mass destruction: It's Dick Cheney."

"But here is the sad part -- before the trip Donald Rumsfeld had denied the guy's request for body armor."

"We can't get Bin Laden, but we nailed a 78-year-old attorney."

"The guy who got gunned down, he is a Republican lawyer and a big Republican donor and fortunately the buck shot was deflected by wads of laundered cash. So he's fine. He took a little in the wallet."

"Although it is beautiful here in California, the weather back East has been atrocious. There was so much snow in Washington, D.C., Dick Cheney accidentally shot a fat guy thinking it was a polar bear."

"That's the big story over the weekend. ... Dick Cheney accidentally shot a fellow hunter, a 78-year-old lawyer. In fact, when people found out he shot a lawyer, his popularity is now at 92 percent."

"I think Cheney is starting to lose it. After he shot the guy he screamed, 'Anyone else want to call domestic wire tapping illegal?' "

"Dick Cheney is capitalizing on this for Valentine's Day. It's the new Dick Cheney cologne. It's called Duck!"

"Vice President Dick Cheney accidentally shot a man during a quail hunt ... making 78-year-old Harry Whittington the first person shot by a sitting veep since Alexander Hamilton. Hamilton, of course, (was) shot in a duel with Aaron Burr over issues of honor, integrity and political maneuvering. Whittington? Mistaken for a bird."

"Now, this story certainly has its humorous aspects. ... But it also raises a serious issue, one which I feel very strongly about. ... Moms, dads, if you're watching right now, I can't emphasize this enough: Do not let your kids go on hunting trips with the vice president. I don't care what kind of lucrative contracts they're trying to land, or energy regulations they're trying to get lifted -- it's just not worth it."

"He is a lawyer and he got shot in the face. But he's a lawyer, he can use his other face. He'll be all right."

"You can understand why this lawyer fellow let his guard down, because if you're out hunting with a politician, you think, 'If I'm going to get it, it's going to be in the back.' "

"The big scandal apparently is that they didn't release the news for 18 hours. I don't think that's a scandal at all. I'm quite pleased about that. Finally there's a secret the vice president's office can keep."

"Apparently the reason they didn't release the information right away is they said we had to get the facts right. That's never stopped them in the past."
