But I already have Aces over Europe addon and another European theatre addon...
Kind of stinks that I need to get PF to get more european theatre fighters. |
Xabba
On Amazon uk you can buy Pacific Fighters new for about 5 pounds.... I guess that price would be a very reasonable cost even if it only was for the content of this free patch, and as other said, you will get more things in the future. Perhaps a carrier landing could turn out to be interesting as well... ;) Cheers Porphy |
So, what's the verdict folks? Is it worth for me to dig out PF again just for this patch? (I haven't played it for a while, sort of turned off by the stale campaign mode...)

What he said.
I was afraid of ruining your party, but now that CCIP has done it (thank you! ), I can join the fray. I find the replayability of this sim to be pathetic, to be honest. Fire it up, play 10, 15, 30 sorties then get bored. Try all the planes for some time on the Quick Mission then get bored. Then you either go Multiplayer or you drop the game. I find it fantastic to see yet another great patch for this great sim, I just wish I could play it for longer than I can play Pong or Pac-Man. |
Well, what saved Forgotten Battles (AEP) back in the day for me was a number of wonderful user-made scripted campaigns (and again, I recommend this as a great idea for anyone wishing for a decent and varied, if "canned", campaign experience). I've tried Lowengrin's DCG, but when I played it it had some bugs... how has that developed since? Is it a partial solution, at least?
|
I don't play the campaigns at all any more and haven't done for a long time. I usually just mess around with the FMB and cook things up for my own entertainment.
I quite like the new patch although I've done little more than fly the Temest around. |
I tried it with DCG, and even though I did fly through a nice round of missions on a Betty (it didn't catch fire, what's wrong!), I think the dynamic structure is still horrifically dull - not to discredit Lowengrin and the wonderful work he puts in to improve it, though!
I think I'll give it one last chance with some scripted campaigns, otherwise I'll permanently shelve it as single-mission/multiplayer-only :hmm: |
Bah to IL2. I bought CFS-3 at the weekend after avoiding it for years due to the horror stories i'd heard. What did I get? a thouroughly enjoyable little sim with a whope map of Europe and weather effects that I really like. Plenty of cool mods available too. Off line I find it way more immersive than Oleg's game.
Aside from anything else, I bought it specifically to play this mod: Over Flander's Field. Best mod I've ever played. As good as RB already, it's going to be incredible once it's finished. http://img81.imageshack.us/img81/546...grights5vv.jpg (resized to 800 x 600) |
CFS3 Great Game

A question about Over Flanders' Fields: What periods of the war does it cover? I really like Eindekkers and Gunbuses. Do they include the early period, or are they planning to?

I haven't played that much of the campaign yet. It's dynamic, of course, and feels as much fun as RB. Plenty of real life aces out there too... If you have CFS-3 and any interest at all in WW1 then down load it. The second two parts are going to be payware to cover the costs of a DVD and shipping but, well, mods of this quality don't come along very often and deserve every bit of help they can get. |
