what do the names in the SUBMARINE folder correspond to as far as what the IN GAME sub names are..

for examplel im in an IXD, but there is no boat called that in the SUBMARINE folder

If Surcouf's hull was heavily armored it wasn't heavily armored enough. If I remember correctly she was sunk by collision with a small steamer. Here's a pic:

The boats do not fire, because they have no AI for doing so. Maybe, the guns can be added functionally to the boats of the Harbourmod.

I finally get the gun added to my own boat. It aims at the selected target, but of course it neither fires, nor can be worked by the player.

I'm no expert but perhaps in needs the shells to fire as well, are they added somewhere in these files?

I think it is nearly impossible to geht this gun working for the player boat. There are simply no routines in the programm that make it firing as your gun. The only possibility is to use the model, textures and properities (damage) of the 5 Inch gun (or any other gun) for the subs deck guns.

The problem is, that they got nearly unlimited "torpedo"-ammo. Maybe it can be done with two different loadouts, so that only boats used for scripted ship-attacks are armed with this weapon. Nevertheless, the position of the mount has to be changed, so that the gun is no more visible.

Would it be possible to mix this with sergbuto's new AI U-Boat mod?

Yes. It is indeed possible. But there is no spot for the second deck gun on my AI boats yet unless you put it instead of AA gun on the conning tower.

From a standpoint of true history, I agree with you.....however, not unlike the Type XI sub they were talking about (which I must admit I know very little about), this shows that it is possible to have MANY different combinations...and if there was a U-Boat with 2 105mm guns on it, and it can be modeled at least somewhat, then I'm all for it!

(PURISTS CLOSE YOUR EYES!! :o )Not only that, but I'm thinking of doing some modding in an altered reality based on some of the Hearts of Iron II games I've been playing, so this thread is perfect for those ideas....now, its a matter of making them happen, which means I must learn hex string! :doh:

Ultimately, I would like to see what is possible, then decide what or what not to use, no matter how outlandish an idea may seem at first!

I am on the way to mod a sub with two working deckguns , also for player use. Maybe it works...

If I remember right there was a few subs made with types of gun close to those . The French had a few and they saw combat in the Pacific fighting the jap Navy around 1940, With the free french and with the British as they took over the subs.

Also the Germans had a couple that where acuired when they took France , but they where used as traning boats. I do not remember the class though and I will see if I can look them up and see what they where called.

also they only had on set of guns on the deck in front of the tower , and not on the rear deck.
