Hi...
IMHO - you're not missing much back aft... On my class of boat - the only view to the reactor was through some very thick small cloudy glass view ports mounted in the deck... Not much of a show - and - you probably didn't want to spend too much time gazing while the plant was hot... Most of us "cone'rs" tried to keep trips aft of frame 52 - to a minimum... The rest of the engine room looks - pretty much - like any othe vessle in the navy... As a nozzleman on a damage control team - most hated drill: FIRE IN MAIN LUBE OIL BAY... Arrrrgh... :) Nothing like putting your hands on history... Someone mentioned Pearl... I had some schools on Ford Island... I still remember walking around the island and putting my fingers in some of the bullet holes left on some of the concrete buildings... Definately brings it all home... Regards, Scott |

I saw the Massachusetts when I visited Boston. They also have a Russian gunboat.
Very interesting....Almost clonked myself on the hatches though. 6'3" isn't the best height on a ship. |
