Thanks for the "heads up" on the UUVs. I have started using them and I think they are the great equalizer. They help considerably fighting an opponent with superior sensors in both offensive and defensive roles.

Also, I have had some luck when I get surprised at close range by going active for a single ping as opposed to just doing snapshots on the bearing of the TIW. Getting an accurate range is very useful when there is no time for TMA.

Before we terminate this discussion I had a further look at the DW manual TMA.

As OKO said it is not as tolerant as SC in accepting data taken during a turn but it has never been
'good practise ' to use such data. You would always wait for the TA to straighten and start to build a picture 2 minutes on.

It is obviously important to hold course, depth and speed on a data collection run . But is that enough ?
Will you not improve the quality of your data subsequently AFTER completing a course or speed change ? I think so.

What is appparent is that it is still vital to ascertain whether you are running in lag or lead -
put yourself in a beam (90 deg.) aspect and follow Tacman instructions regarding the fan. If this is not necessary please share !

Although I am still looking I have yet to see what other features or improvements DW brings to manual TMA. :hmm:

I suppose you could also fire a torp, and then lag two at a few degrees of the primary shot on either side with snapshots, and then use active sonar to guide them later on... one into the huge cloud of active decoys, preenable it, until it is well through and reenable it, and send both of the laggers around the sides of the cloud... This depends on being able to guess the target location, based on the decoys it drops , which show up nicely on active sonar at range, and how your torpedos behave (triangulation with two torps is tasty :smug: as you guys have mentioned ), but I have a lot to learn as well, although I used this in a mission to get a kill with the Seawolf at 35kyrds against the AI.

With this technique, you'll know your torps have aquired decoys if off-bearing torps don't drift when they are aquiring, meaning they have aquired a stationary target. So if two torps have aquired the same target, and neither of them is changing course, you have to do something about that or you are going to blow up a lot of little bubbles.
