Having read the title of this thread, I thought it was going to be about Ron Jeremy. Thank God it wasn't...

It's funny, there are times they don't run out of those dam hedgehogs either, and times they never use them. Even scarrier just to try and out run them.

100% realism makes you miss too many things in SHIII. The event camera makes the game even more real in some respects.

If you go to http://www.middle-watch.co.uk/Limbo.htm and scroll down a bit you will see some pictures of Hedgehog, then Squid and finally Limbo.

Limbo would have been really nasty for a Uboat captain. It evolved from Squid and threw 3 charges with the Uboat in the middle of them. Accurate out to 2000 yds apparently. Fortunately for SH3 captains, it was post war.

I think that we are very lucky that we don't have to face Fido as well.

Be greatful that they never named a flower corvette "Pansey":D

Wilko 08-11-06 03:00 AM

Good shots , thanks :D

I can't bring myself to go the 100% realism cause I love looking at all the different cool thing with the camera like watching a crash dive or when you come charging up out of the ocean, the depth charges coming down or just a nice peaceful sunset :|\\

From the article regarding the squid.

When used in conjunction with the new depth finding sonars to automatically set the depth and fire the weapon it proved devastating and the kill rate leaped to about 30%.
Gulp ! :o

Those just look ten times cooler than those in Silent Hunter III. Perhaps Grey Wolves could re-texture them for their next release?

It could've been worse. It could've shot at you, too:p.

Wow that squid sounds quite deadly! I wonder if they were to ever do another destroyer command if the Uboat people would score so well with real people as captains of the escorts.

I never played SH before the 3rd release, did people get anywhere near 50,000 tons sunk per patrol when they played against real opposition? And were there squids and hedgehogs available to the captains?

Dont feel bad, i had that exact same situation, up just north of Ireland. Little flower corvette was coming right at me at 15 knots. I fired a torpedo that just barely missed so i dove. Didnt get more then 15-20 m down before depth charges were going off. 3 compartments flooded and my batteries destroyed. Even blowing my ballast didnt get me to the surface. :dead:

My first encounter with hedgehogs in my current career was almost the last. Grid CA53, January 9, 1943.
http://img212.imageshack.us/img212/2...dgehog1wg1.jpg
http://img78.imageshack.us/img78/863...dgehog2yg9.jpg

And this is result, hull integrity down to 39%, but amazingly no casualties and nothing was destroyed. But I guess the happy days are over.

Nice pics.

The hedgehogs are one of the cooler features in the game.

And even though I have everything else set to highest realism, I always leave the exterior view option on. If you're a realism enthusiast, then simply don't hit the F12 key. But during times when it isn't serving a cheating purpose, the graphics and animations in this game are simply too good to hide, and not using exterior view is missing half of the game, IMO.

Great pix! Looking forward to more photo stories.
