I know there's stuff out there to bypass Ubi Connect.
I've been using it for over 6 years! Don't even HAVE Ubi Connect on my 'puter. :arrgh!: |

Thats some good news atleast! :Kaleun_Thumbs_Up: |
The era of the big, corporate development studios is over. EA, Ubisoft, Codemasters, et al will all go down the drain. Everything that they have produced in the past ten years is just a rehash of the same old fare.
Independent developers and studios are the ones producing fresh, new, innovative titles. Nearly all my games now come from small studios, some even one-man operations. I have yet to have any of them pull the rug out from under me, and it's been years for many titles. It also helps to research the title that you're considering and make sure that it's not a take the money and run effort. Shovelware, I believe they call it. Ubisoft employees could always get jobs teaching once the company goes belly up. "Welcome to Business 201. The first thing that we're going to cover is how to make your company name toxic to the consumers to whom you're trying to sell your products." Pure genius. I've hated Ubisoft since they mandated their data mining software in order to play their games. And you know who killed VR? Metaquest. That's the intrusive moles behind Facebook. You can't use an Oculus without allowing them to install their data mining software. Eventually maybe these big companies will wake up to the fact that people don't want their intrusive crap. But I'll happily watch the ones that don't learn go belly up. It makes me laugh. Having watched their antics and encountered their arrogant attitudes toward their customers in forums, and all their other stupidity, I'm happy to hear that they're not doing well. If I ran a company and some pinhead with a newly minted degree came up with the bright idea of mandating our own intrusive interface in order to play our games, I'd fire the idiot the moment that I heard about it. But I doubt if there's anyone that smart in upper management at Ubisoft. Que sera sera. The moment that it becomes a pain in the butt to play a game, I hit the Uninstall button. Plenty more where that came from. And there always will be. :Kaleun_Salute: |

It appears that, at least to me, that even if you bypass uplay/ubisoft connect, the career won't be playable. You can start a career, but various glitches prevent you from talking to the munitions guy and the guy who gives the patrol mission in the bunker. There's something the game has to do with ubisoft the first time it's launched in order to prevent the bugged out campaign.
I did not try with just stock campaign (why bother), so this is after attempting to mod twos. The career/campaign is really the only reason I play these games, so I'm moving to sh3. ETA: that's no good either. who thought it would be a good idea to spam radio messages, and force tc to drop to 1 every single time? Tried adjusting tc settings both in main.cfg and in sh3 commander. Oh well. ETA2: The solution to that problem seems to be this:https://www.subsim.com/radioroom/dow...o=file&id=1385 That is too bad. I don't mind the flavor messages, but dropping out of tc every time is a problem. Wasn't a problem in 5, but what can you do? |

Gonna miss one of the dlc skins. Not a fan of paid content going away. If pay for something it should always be yours. I digress....

They pulled the game from every retailer. On steam it states the game will be inaccessible after September 1. It wasn't a great game to begin with but not having access at all is idiotic. It's a single player campaign. Ubisoft really $%^^ the bed here.

Welcome back!

Excellent! Thanks. This mod includes stuff I would've figured out that I needed well into a campaign. Unrelated to that, I have support tickets filed both with steam and ubisoft to get a better idea of what is going on with sh5. Ubi is still selling it in store, but mislabeled it DLC. I'm beginning to suspect a communication breakdown between scum-sucking Ubisoft, and Steam. Ubi's post never said anything about the entire game being inaccessible. I will update when/if i receive replies from either of them. |

so i contacted the support, apparently they said it would still work, but I think they have no idea what they're talking about.
"Hello can I please get some clarification on the future of silent hunter 5. Is this game not playable,at all, offline after september 1? Even the singleplayer campaign? Thank you for the clarification." "Hello, Thank you for contacting Ubisoft! For Silent Hunter 5: 1) You will be unable to link Ubisoft accounts in-game or use online features. 2) The installation and access to DLC will be unavailable. Closing the online services for some older games allows us to focus our resources on delivering great experiences for players who are playing newer or more popular titles. Thank you for your understanding. If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to us and we will do our best to assist you. Best Regards, Ubi-Rony Ubisoft Support Team" "I'm sorry, does that mean I will be able to play silent hunter 5?" "Thank you for contacting Ubisoft support. I will be more than happy to assist you with this. Please note that the offline features of the games are unaffected and remain available to you. Please refer to this for more information- https://www.ubisoft.com/en-gb/help/a...ames/000064576 Please feel free to reach out if you ever have any concerned questions, issues, or feedback down the track. Kind Regards, Ubi-Jagat Ubisoft Support" They save games actually connect to the servers, unless there is a patch for that I doubt it works like they said. Who knows if its accurate or not..... :Kaleun_Mad: |
From phrasing used I'd suspect you were answered by a bot. That, or a person hired as "Ctrl+C/Ctrl+V Key Combinations Operator"

Possible good news
Even one of my favorite YouTube videogame review guy has picked up on this, you usually don't see subsimms getting attention.
https://youtu.be/-BwLdR7U6iQ He has said on his discord that Ubisoft has commented in the meantime as said that "the games will work" after this, Let's hope this is correct. |

Say you like 512 TC. Set them at 1024 I assume you were using the 2 files I sent a link to for SH5? |
Quote:
I can get the sh5 files to work, but apparently the game is programmed in such a way that the campaign is bugged out (at least in twos, not sure about stock because i have to go thru tutorial first) unless the exe talks to ubi launcher at least once. Once they discontinue access to the game, i think the campaign will be unplayable after a new install, which sooner or later will be inevitable. Campaign is the only reason i play these games so im going to assume the worst and cut losses, move to sh3, and wait and see if any new info clears up the sh5 debacle. |
Then I'll ask others to do a fresh install of SH5 and give them a link to the 2 files and do some testing with them.
I have a saved install that I don't use. I can see some differences in some files. Like R2.rw in that install is 18,968 KB In the one I run for testing R2.rw is 23,723 KB I suspect the last time I connected through Ubi Connect it was updated. That would have been 4 years ago. For SH3? I have the files needed to totally remove the old StarForce and also remove all traces of Steam. They are DIRECT from Ubi before StarForce was added and before Steam became a Data mining PITA! |
Per my experimentation, using your files, a copy of dvd exe patched with tdw patcher, and steam exe with tdw patcher and steam fix in twos installer, its the same story for me. No getting out of bunker in campaign, unless exe talks to ubi launcher. After that, ubi can be cut loose with no problem.
Now, i have nowhere near the experience this board has with this sort of thing, so i could be making a mistake somewhere. |
Can you Give me a list of files in your base SH5 folder where SH5.exe is?
To make that easy? Here's a batch file. Copy the text below and make a new txt file. Name it files.bat Past the lines below in it and save. Then double click it after moving it to your SH5 Base folder. It will create a file named list txt. cls cmd/K dir/B *.* > list.txt cls end Now. UbiSoft has been up for Sale since April. That may be why they are turning stuff off. Maybe a last patch will be released. BUT down side is............ A New owner would get all source code and rights and MIGHT enforce NO SCREWING WITH THE GAME. And per the license? They may be able to take ALL Mods released and use them as they wish! |
