RIP, it's a Meghan Markle world now. I don't much want to live in it either.

Sad news.

I wonder how long Elizabeth has. They were close for such a long time it is not uncommon for the "other" to pass quickly. :(

Rest in peace and condolences to those who reside in England who are feeling the loss.

Yes, but it is a German noble house, The Battenbergs. When him and Elizabeth became seriously close, it was determined to hide this from tbe British public, so short after the war. Closesr relatives of Philip had served in the Luftwaffe and Marine. During a very successful state visit of the couple to Germany many years later, it was kept from the public that his German family met him on secondary side trips. From the big show on national level, they were banned, were not invited, to not rub it the Brits under their Nose. Queen Mum did not accept him for many years, calling him The Hun.

Its funny that the Brits still think they had won! :O:

As Catfish said, the links between British and German high houses has been and still are very close. One knows each other very well.

I'm very much aware of the true story about this picture but a growing number of people are happy to believe Her Majesty was being 'pranked' so I'm comfortable posting it here.

It is being touted that the Prince dressed as a Guardsman to welcome the return of the Queen from one of her official functions and the photo supposedly captures the scene on her face when she recognises him when in truth he was actually about to attend an official Guards function wearing a Guards uniform he has warn on quite a few occasions in the past.

Not at all, I wasn't aware until the Prince died and I came across the photograph.

Being on a visit in Paraguay, he told military dictator General Alfredo Stroessner
“It’s a pleasure to be in a country that isn’t ruled by its people.”

Would love to have seen Stroessner's face :har:

Wearing the uniform was not a prank i guess, he wore it often, nor was it intentionally done to make a joke; but then i often miss the sense or meaning behind all these rumours like if or why one of the royals moved the left or right foot first, or how their digestion might have been. Stuff for the yellow press, thanks but no thanks.
