Hope that's the wife jim or you are in for a bashing with a rolling pin.

I thought the Brits could hold their booze better? Quarter glass and he's naked in the hot tub.

....wait? Way more booze was consumed at the subsim meet and there were Aussies there! Oh, the debauchery!

Poor Queen Victoria. Must be spinning in her grave.

I found it amusing that during the Angry Joe review that one of the reviewers stated that they love submarine movies and then listed U571 and Down Periscope.

I like it when reviewers establish their credibility upfront. :D

Agreed on U571. Down Periscope though, that's pretty much how we did things. :haha:

I'm also a big fan of Down Periscope; it always gives me good laughs whenever I see it. I recommended it to a co-worker years ago, who happened to be an industrial psychologist; the take away from the psychologist was it was not only a good comedy movie, it also was a lesson in team leadership and adaptive management: a person is assigned to lead a less than desirable project, is given a motley and eccentric crew; he manages, by interacting with the crew members individually, to find their strengths and weaknesses and recognizes them; he forges a sense of united purpose and a sort of familial bond; in the face of problems, he adapts what would have been perceived as 'problems' in the individual crew members by other officers as possible solutions to the problems and adapts their peculiar abilities to the task; he also proactively works to reinforce the confidence of the crew by expressing his confidence in their abilities, particularly the dive officer...

So has anyone actually seen the movie?

Down Periscope

When a movies sets out to be a comedy, and factual representations of real life are put second, I'm on board with that. It is a good comedy, I have always enjoyed that one.

IN GOING VISUAL ON THAT, I'M IN LINE WITH THE FILM DIRECTOR'S CINEMATOGRAPHY:

Below the surface, the details feel real, even if ripped from “The Hunt for Red October,” but on land, everything is shot with a soft-focus lens and enhanced with way too much CGI.
:arrgh!:

Come on, someone do it. While it's still in theaters. And take notes, we need an in-depth review. :/\\k:

Okay, I'll admit to having watched it and my initial impression was "Tom Clancy movie"

Plenty of action even if the storyline was predictable but still watchable if not just for the special effects and CGI as well as the totally opposing characters in the plot.

Those who watch it will no doubt be reminded of Hunt for Red October but the lasting impression for me was the bluff and counter bluff as well as the tense standoff near the end and also the realisation our perceived enemies are often no different to ourselves.

nikimcbee 11-06-18 05:38 PM

I have the day off of work. I'll go see it. Any sort of hazzard pay?:haha:
