Could it possibly have been The Malayan Emergency? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malayan_Emergency |
Could be (my uncle was in that as an Army dog-handler)

Sorry for derailing the thread from Korea
Yes, it was Malaya! I do now remember the name, seems he was there to fight the insurgents. The pictures he showed us were gruesome to say at least.. his 17-year old shop assistant Tracey was a bit aroused, and sure had a different view of him thereafter. He just said that those 'operations' were the same the world over, and that what Germany did in Russia was perfectly normal, in all other armies. As a 22-year-old more or less left-oriented young 'man' i did not believe him, back then. |
Yes I'd forgotten about Malaya and the more I thought about it the more likely that seemed to me, too. My uncle was sent there as it coincided with his 'National Service' commitment. Well spotted, August :yep:

Marked at the top left KURE-JAPAN GATON -27/11/53- I think maybe "Gaton" was the artist... he was going around doing these for soldiers as they sat in a cafeteria |

Another photo of dad's Bedford QL - the Aussies had doctored its front end with the words "Ned Kellys"
