A good number of these "sports" seem to go back in time a good bit; it would appear you Brits were given to great periods of boredom in your past... :)

My Dad was a Dewer's man since before I was conceived...I've no doubt I was 50% under the influence at conception...how ever immaculate that may have been! :O:http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTYwMFgxMT...U-NmL/$_57.JPG
Had a promotional wall hanging of this one as a lad.http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/NTA3WDM3Ng...VTtGF/$_12.JPG

MGR1 05-29-15 02:55 PM

That reinforces my point about Tartanry! It's as bad as beer swilling, thigh slapping, Lederhosen wearing Bavarians!:O:

Nice hat. As regards the tartanry stuff, I view it differently these days following a comment by a crofter friend: "there's only one thing better than a tourist....two tourists".

MGR1 06-01-15 04:42 PM

I'll concede that Tartanry is as good a way as any to part gullible tourists from their money. My objection is when the "Brigadoon" image becomes the national identity itself. For some Nats, at least, the maudlin, "Wha's like us?", Flower of Scotland, Robert Burns/Sir Walter Scott image of this country is Scotland, probably because they either don't like, or can't handle, the reality. It's all very well to dream, but dream of a dynamic, modern, 21st Century, democratic European nation. Not some Tartan infested mockery!

Mike.:hmmm:
