I'm thinking about the Carley Rafts.
All the netting may cause file size problems I'd like to avoid.
I do have an idea on that though.

Also thinking about some kind of lights at night maybe.

Now I've come across something interesting about the wooden rafts.
England built over 300 Chipchase Life Rafts.
http://www.nemaritimetrust.co.uk/wp-...e_liferaft.jpg
http://www.britishpathe.com/video/li...query/01141400

They were built with both the top and bottom the same it seems.
That way no matter how it hit the water you were good to go.

So I looked close at the images of the raft I am working on now.
Photo's I have seem to show 8 drums total with 4 on each side stacked for the flip in an H type pattern.

Anyone have better info or guesses?
:hmmm:

Hello, some thoughts:

-- the SH4 model of the Carley floats coming with the original lifeboat mod isn't that bad besides of not having the grid bottom (oh well, there were several types of that ... :hmmm: ); adding that would be a great improvement and may not add too many faces
-- netting can be done with little faces, just with texture (I guess that is what are thinking of anyway)
-- the wooden lifeboats look great; is it possible to give them a rudder (not a working one, just a 3D model)?
-- here are images of Chipchase rafts I found in the net:

I was about to suggest a texture for the netting myself...an alpha channel maybe for the transparent parts. Also some Carleys came with a wooden floor, not netting, which would be easy to simulate with few polys.

As an aside, the wooden-floored variant was not as successful because the wood often broke loose when the raft was thrown in the water...when the "Indianapolis" sank in 1945, many survivors had to cling to the sides of their rafts for days bc of this problem.

Nice pic...afraid I've never heard of the Chip Chase rafts so I don't know how their drums were arranged.

I ment the wooden ones you posted links to.

I figure there's no need to worry about that anyway as the rafts always fall right side up in Game.
:D

The ChipChase would be nice if we controlled what is released by Country/? maybe?
:hmmm:

@the_frog,

The SH4 ones are OK but I'll update those also. They are more low poly then I like.
With better systems and such? Polys are a gold mine.
:haha:

I'm also holding off on Targors boat until I hear from him about getting his original obj files.

Tested IABL's Wooden boats with my SH4 boat today.
Real nice! Of course adjustments need made but quite happy so far.
:D

Oh. Targor is sending his original files for his boat also.
The GR2 export is just not SH3/4 worthy and would take to much work to adjust.
It would also not highlite his 3D modeling work.

Privateer, you have a PM re: some stuff I'm designing currently...thanks for your work.

Got it. Replied.
:)

On the subject of Nationality of survivors you brought up.
(And I mentioned about the Chipchase rafts)
It can be done with instancing in the main .dat file of the newer version.
Then we add to the val files of each unit what nationality it calls.

Doing it all by hand is crazy. I've already started a program that will scan any unit in the Sea folder and make adjustments. I could add a roster scan that applies the proper settings to use a Nationality setting if it's the only Nation that uses that Unit.

WIP of a new survivor model, which is only twice the polys as the original SH3 human figures. The body actually has fewer polys than the existing figures but looks better and is easier to texture...most of the poly increase comes from the head (a SH4 crewmember):

You have no idea how happy I am to hear that.

Great links Mate.
:salute:
I started one like Poon-Lim survived on. I found several more images of the same type raft so it was kind of common and that will allow me to scale it fairly well.

I took a few liberties on the 55 gal drums.
:D

Glad, I could help a bit. Your work looks and sounds very promising

...any news? I am making some changes to the particle effects for SH3 and SH4...maybe we can integrate our work. Love what's been posted so far.

Got the original meshes from Targor for his Wooden boat.
The exports from GR2 files take to much work to fix to SH3/4 meshes.
I'm home from the 5 weeks in California but that means I have to spend time working on the next job.

Along with the required attention to SWMBO?
:D

Under the thumb eh?

Always suspected it :)

Hi Jeff,

any update to this great wip? I'm looking forward to seeing it in-game :D

Cheers, LGN1

Hi Jeff,

is this mod still in development? I hope so! It would be a pitty if it would never be released.

Yes. Still got the files at home and do work on it when I can.
Right now I'm flooded with real life Demolition work so I haven't had time to do much on it.

LGN1 10-23-14 01:02 PM

Great news, Jeff!

I'm looking forward to using your mod when time will come!

Best, LGN1

Hi Jeff,

is there any chance for a nice christmas surprise :D

Regards, LGN1

Jeff-Groves 03-22-15 08:15 AM

New rigs for the animations are nearly done after a major crash and loss of files.

Nice thing is that I'm much better at getting things setup and working again.

I've also written or modded scripts to improve the work flow.

I'm not real happy with all the work needed when importing with S3D and may code something for 010 to handle all the timing.
