I was transiting the mighty Pacific Ocean until I was in one of the straits (can't remember which, it was in the South Pacific). It was around 0200 so i decided so run at decks awash through the strait. Well...I was able to make it to a tolerable periscope depth. I couldn't see the subchaser....my boat was still at a bit of an angle so when I face the periscope rearward i'm looking down at the water. It was off in one of my blind spots.

So I dived, not knowing how close it was only to have depth charges drop not 10 minutes later. I'm still running at ahead two thirds to keep a normal angle. I still had flooding and the angle was getting bad again. I was sticking out of the water at this point.

Depth Charges Galore!

More flooding, more damage, more sinking.

Now, I was at like 70 degrees up angle and I was running at ahead flank to stay up.

I knew then, I had to surface.

I surface and managed to actually kill the thing with my deck gun! (That big gun on the Gar class is awesome) And I started to move away.

Then, I sank. Right there on the surface. Sank like a rock.

I was making something like 45 knots when I died from sinking so fast. :dead:
