And the point is he wasn't allowed paint the door according to his rental contract. So there's your law.

And nobody can seriously claim that the flag is racially provocative. So that gets rid of that.

instead GT is turning it into the usual gripefest about awful politicians and how we're all doomed to a sexless emotionless politically correct hellscape.

not a euphemism, an attempt at a definition.

But why now after 10 years?? That's my question

The landlord must have passed his door several times during those 10 years, so why, first now??

Firstly the boundaries of the law have been set, if he doesn't like it he can buy his own house and do what he wants with it.
Secondly, he served in the 6 counties, so must know how some people can get a little annoyed with other people painting flags on buildings.
Thirdly, unfortunately the cross of St. George has for a long time been associated with vile scum who appropriated it for their own loony agenda, you can't really blame people for mistakenly associating his door display with those scum can you.

Do like the article says.....The flag of St George needs to be reclaimed from the far right....if the dumb racists hadn't claimed the flag as their badge there wouldn't be that much of an issue over the flag itself. So don't blame "political correctness" blame the dumb neo nazis.

Places for People, which owns Mr Rolfe’s house, has since apologised for calling the flag offensive but insists its tenant must repaint the door because he did not have the proper permission to turn it into an England flag.

Same issue in America with the old confederate flag. People seem to think it is a sign of racism when it really may not be intended to be racist depending on who has it up for me it is a symbol of the south and a different time period(i am in the north BTW) it was also a symbol for a few countries other than the Confederate States of America too at one point.

Willing to bet there is more to the story between the renter & owner, that would explain the ten year delay. :hmmm:

Could it be something simpler?
Perhaps Preston Council has an issue with private rental properties in its town and is currently getting landlords to keep their propeties in order ...which may mean the landlord in question has actually inspected the property for a change to see if it meets their own conditions, which it didn't.
