Jeez its a commonly accepted phrase (if I remember right coming from Latin but i could be wrong). Of course now you two got me looking and it is "per se" which means "in itself" sources below.

Exactly. If you're going to try to use a fancy phrase you should at least get it right. 'Per say', no. 'Per se', yes.
