Good point. Although, in a weeks time, Westboro Baptist Church will probably be Westboro Rubble Pile :D

Probably not. They've been doing this for years.

Yes, but I have a feeling that this will be the pile of rocks that broke the demon-spawn's back.

I'd still wager no. We will continue to hear from and about these people. America is rife with hate groups. WBC is but one of many.

Sorry to run off the rails, but I think this deserves answering:

What a strange thing to say. First, how do you know those early Christians were right? Was Armistead referring to all Christians of that time, or only a certain group? Do you base all your beliefs on something someone told you?

My point is not to disagree with Armistead, but with your interpretation of what you think he said. Just because someone two thousand years ago didn't believe it, how do you know there is no hell? How do you know that these people won't end up there? You say that what upsets you most is something you have no way of knowing about, based on what someone who died centuries ago may or may not have believed.

Better to just stick to despising these jerks in the here and now. What happens to anyone in the next life (if there even is one) is a matter of pure speculation, and not worth getting upset over.

Not exactly sure how this came up, but what I was saying the majority of the early church was universalist, they believed God would judge, but that all people would be saved by the work of the cross. This was believed by the earliest church Fathers closet to Jerusalam. Certainly there were other Fathers that believed in hell as a torture pit. We must remember hell wasn't a Christian concept, it long existed in most pagan religions in some form.

If God exist, I don't believe that he would have any desire to torture the majority of humanity because they followed their cultural beliefs, such as Hindu's, etc..

The fact is they're numerous Christian beliefs on hell and heaven. I'm agnostic on the issue myself.

They believe this is God's punishment for the sins of our society. They believe our moral compass is so out of whack that tragedy's like this are part of God's judgement against us.

Must be nice that WBC has such great insight as this.:nope:

Oh, I know, and I understand. It came up because the youngling took that belief for fact and said he was upset that the WBBC folks aren't going to hell. That simple.

I don't think so, I think they're nuts just seeking attention. They're several youtubes out from direct family that left WBC that exposes these nuts.

Odd, I thought the existence of WBC was God's punishment for our sins... :hmmm:

The amazing thing is that Fred Phelps was apparently for many years a top civil rights lawyer.

I'd wager he wasn't a very successful one :D

"Top" in this context means successful.

I've heard rumours from people who are fairly local to the area that there are already things being put in place to stop these nutjobs from protesting. Mostly just big burly men and the like, which is fine by me. :yeah:

As I said in the other thread I think these nuts accomplished their objective by just saying they would show up. They crave attention and they sure are getting it. No need to actually show and risk a beating...
