Looks pretty decent... but I haven't seen the original.

In original officer Murphy was very essentially shot into pieces - several guys spraying him with bullets. The scene was quite brutal actually - atleast for little kid as I was when watching it first time :D.

Based on trailer alone I'm not impressed. Hopefully future trailers paint a bit better picture...

I agree with Dowly. Robo-Cop the original looks correct. Half human and robot. Not a suit that makes the actor look muscular more than a robot.

(Shotguns!)

Looks like they took away all the tragic elements surrounding Murphy in this new POS.

In the original, Murphy's death was pretty horrible. He was all alone, with a bunch
of known cop-killers laughing at him and about to kill him, and he knew it.

His family thought he was dead, Murphy started to remember at some point,
and tried to make contact with them, but failed. He was still "alive", but again alone.
In this new POS they go and change that too.

If they truly left out the tragic elements of Murphy's situation and the flash back memories without building the rest of the story on that all is lost for this movie. Heroes usually have a tragic past. If this is not the case what good is making a sequel?

Looking at the trailer, Murphy seems to wounded (doesn't look like he died) in a
car bombing. Also, in the trailer, you see his wife speaking to him and later
on you see Robo with his son. :nope:

Something is screwy here. In the original there was the struggle between man and machine as one. Directive, etc. This remake seems to have that as noted in the trailer. However, as you pointed out, Murphy's wife is told he has died in the line of duty in the original. Murphy started having flashbacks. Reconnecting with his wife in the original never occurred that I recall. This movie he does? Speaks with his son? I don't know, perhaps this is how they wish to finish the story. It does lose that tragic life aspect IMO.

After seeing the trailer, I won't be going to the cinema to watch this one.:shifty:

Hah, same here. Haven't seen #2 in ages.

Fun Robocop fact, a friend of a friend of mine had Peter Weller as a teacher in Syracuse.

Peter Weller is actually a brilliant man.

The biggest mistake they made was replacing him. Robocop 3 sucked.

It's like Micheal Ironside not playing Sam Fisher in Splinter cell games (grunts at Blacklist)

Considering the state of remakes lately, Uhh, wow, oh boy...

I am sure the call of duty generation will enjoy it. But in the grand scheme of things it will be a fart in the wind, crappy remake, because remaking, and reinventing a franchise is easier and cheaper in Hollywood, than an original idea.

Disgusting, the re- make mania has taken over.

Get Netflix, watch the originals. Yechhhh remakes are money grabs, and disrespectful.

Webster 09-06-13 06:32 PM

that is the same recycled suits they used in the GI-Joe movie

cant they just come up with something original for a change?

From what I can tell, it looks like the theme has shifted to "bad corporation controls man in the robot", (boring) instead of the original's "fight crime with Robocop and get revenge".

This guy's history is a little shaky, too :haha:

Say you look at a controversial war thing, like the atomic bomb in Hiroshima. At the end of the day, somebody ordered the bomb, in that case Eisenhower. So you can judge Eisenhower.

But, with Michael Keaton, I'm all in. Still looks like it will be pretty entertaining.

Platapus 09-08-13 02:41 PM

Looks very similar to Iron Man.

I think I will wait until it comes out on DvD and not rent it. :nope:
