R.I.P Mr Bolognaisin.. (noone in my family could ever pronounce his name so this is our pet name for him)

Just watched him in Torpedo Run with Glen Ford....

Anyone remember him as 'Cabby' from 'Escape from New York' ?

Cheers

R.I.P. :(

I remember him mostly from Airwolf.

He was also in an episode of Magnum P.I. in the 3rd season.

Rest in peace, good sir. McHale's Navy was/is still one of my favorites.

RIP Mr. Borgnine...you've earned your rest...

Consider the other actors and their films he beat out for the Best Actor Oscar in 1955:

James Cagney ("Love Me or Leave Me")
James Dean ("East of Eden")
Frank Sinatra ("Man With the Golden Arm")
Spencer Tracy ("Bad Day at Black Rock")

BTW, Ernest Borgnine was one of the first 'name' actors to lend his voice to "The Simpsons" early on in its run...

I believe Borgnine was in that last movie as well.

I just happened to see that movie for the first time a few weeks back, has many actors who became quite well known. Lee Marvin is sitting in the back.

Everybody is talking about this McHale's Navy and I presume your are refering to the old version. But are you talking about the movie(-66) or the serie (-62-66)?

If it's the movie or the serie I'm going to try to get my hand of a copy of both.

I have seen alot of american series from the 60'ies on german tv in the beginning of the 70'ies however I can't remember everyone, due to my age.

Oh, the old series, without question. He did have a bit part in the new movie, but it was awful. The series was made just for him, and featured a host of great comic actors, including the wonderful Tim Conway. Quintin McHale, played by Borgnine, was pretty much the straigt man.

Joe Flynn, who played Capt. Binghamton in the series, was one of the truly great comic actors/straight man in television and films. His slow burns and abrupt explosions were some of the funniest moments of the show...

And, in an odd bit of "naval promotion", Gavin MacLeod, who played Seaman Joseph "Happy" Haines on "McHale's Navy", later went on to star as Capt. Stubing on the "Love Boat"...

Thank you for linking to a good laugh.

Manner If I only could get my hand on some of those dvd's Season 1-4(135 episodes) The bummer is that they have only released them in region 1 and 4.

My dvdplayer can only read region 2

Youtube doesn't have every episode(haven't tried every episode)

From seeing that episode, I understand why you love that series, a good laugh from start to the end of each episode.

RIP, one of the last of the Old Guard, a great character. I could have sworn that he was also in The Longest Day...:hmmm: looks like I was wrong, he must have been the only actor from the 60s who didn't participate in this film. :DL

Usually any DVD player can be switched to region 0 (free), the question is only if this info is available somewhere.
Also you could try hulu.com with a US proxy.
Both methods are perfectly legal in the EU.
