It's never that simple.

It will happen January 13, 2013.

You know its possible the Mayans encountered a transient Lorentzian wormhole with its apertures located in the same spot on Earth somewhere between 2000 BC and 2012 AD.

They peeked through and saw their cities in 2012 abandoned and overgrown with jungle and assumed it was all over in 2012.

:hmm2:

Or scarier they peeked though the event horizon and saw New York or LA and thought the lack of human sacrifices and soccer with human heads meant the end of it all...

... ok they probably didn't see a glimpse of LA...

:D
That reminds me of a passage in the book I'm reading...

"[you're in] the Best Western Media Center Inn and Suites, in Burbank."
"Is that a planet? What system is it in?"
"You're on Earth, you moron."
"Was there an apocalypse?"

The way I see it everyone has a last day on earth just like a jug of milk we all have an expiration date we just don't know what it is and some people most I recon have lucked out and missed a chance at dying at least once others several times. You never know when it might happen or how but it is going to happen and probably not in your sleep so you might as well try and make the best of the hand you got dealt.

Actually if you locked your self in a box with no way to see in or out you would never die.

Take THAT mortality!

The trade off of course between you and the cat you would manage to have philosophical discussions for about 6 months then the cat would get bored and leave.

After the cat leaves you would talk to yourself for another 6 moths eventually loosing your mind and coming to believe that your are Admiral Fluffy in command of the Mighty
Nuclear Kazoo Band.

You mean something like Michael Jackson rises from the dead and he looks better than before?
:haha:

In that case we're safe: the Apocalypse will probably not be greenlighted and, if it is, it will be in development for years, have several re-writes and then be shelved indefinitely...

So Dick Clark dies in the year we are not supposed to have a New Year's Eve. Well played Mayans, well played.
