If he took steps not to go at all, it doesn't make him a coward and it doesn't mean he doesn't love his country or that he's not a patriot. I've never been a fan, and I think he's quite over the top, but I also think that you both view yourselves as patriots, and where Vietnam was concerned I'm not. I also believe that the people who went to jail rather than be drafted were braver than myself, and the ones who went to Canada better than myself. Most of them weren't interested in saving their skins so much as refusing to participate in their country's immorality.

Steve I can respect those who served under protest as well as those who went to jail for their beliefs, but no way will I ever respect those who ran or lied or weaseled their way out of their obligation, thereby forcing someone else to take their place.

I especially won't respect shallow self promoters like Ted Nugent who'd crap their own pants not for lofty ideals but just to avoid putting themselves at personal risk. His subsequent self professed love for our boys and girls in uniform just rings hollow to me and i'm glad the Army cancelled his appearance.

way the spineless wimp way is to try and hide from what you did and attempt to seek protection from civil laws so the guy that goes AWOL will try to say that is not illegal in the civilian world to skip out on work.

As to Ted Nugent I put little faith into what some guy who is clearly in left field as it is nor what he told a some likely doped up High Times reporter in 1977 it almost certainly is not a true story.
I am not defending Ted I am simply saying that he told an interesting story in 1977.

Well I hope you hold our leaders, with as much accountablilty, as you do with the pea ons.
I'd like a nickle for every time, I've heard," under the advice of my attorney I invoke my 5th admendment right". from some of these public officials

I never said the guy was pea on :hmmm: just that he violated a military law and then he tries to say that his rights where violated rights as a member of the military he does not fully have that is why the US military has it own laws the UCMJ if you violate an article(law) you can expect to face a court marshal(trial) if you are found guilty you will be punished. And the guy got off pretty light an other than honorable he will be able to appeal it in 6 months and they almost always give on appeal an honorable discharge so he did nor really loose that much and he served no jail time.

I almost half way suspect that maybe the guy wanted to get out of the Marines so he made the Facebook page just in the hopes of getting out and not having to complete the remaining time on his contract.

Plenty of people besides public officials plead the 5th and that is a little more honest than "I do not recall".

Honestly I do not think that you should ever fully trust any elected leader they all have some self interest and they are all lairs because they go around telling everyone that they are a friend and if you just vote for me I'll cut government spending then they tell another chump that they will make the military strong which means increasing government spending which makes them a lair because to one of those two people he just lied.Or Take Mitt Romney for example anyone who honestly thinks that he likes Ted Nugent or the music he plays or anything that he says must be slightly stupid he just got Ted to endorse him because Ted is more than slightly stupid and he knows that there are conservatives that like Ted Nugent(though I doubt that many that actually go out and vote do)
