Thanks, again everyone.

Oh, all the icons are on my desktop--for now.

Just make sure you don't start deleting things indiscriminately. Always go into your programs, find what you want to delete and choose the program's own "Uninstall" utility. Either that or go into your PC Control Panel, choose the "Add/Remove Programs" utility and uninstall it from there. Just be sure to carefully, and slowly, read through these things. There's no rush and it's not a race. I'm confident we get get things working for you.

Oh yeah! Good point! In the early days of my learning, I don't know how many times I did just that, as I was in a rush, and made a mistake, and had to start all over again from the beginning.

At least now though, with computers being faster, it's not like the old 486, or P3 days, when it took up to 30 minutes just for a game to install.

Yeah, deleting porgrams is the fun part. Trying to figure if it is needed for something else.

I love it when it asks "are you sure?"

Heck no, I am not sure! Who do you think I am--Bill Gates??"

I just keep them in the recycle bin and see if all else seems to work.

If my computer starts using language from mars or the like I have done something wrong.

Learned a long time back deleting the icons doesn't delete the programs.

I am better than I used to be at least.

I think I am starting to understand how to install mods thanks to you guys.

I can still play stock if I like though, even with mods installed?

Glad you got it figured out! Hope we didn't confuse you too much!

You can if you use MultiSh4, which allows you to have more than one installation of the game.

Honestly though, I wouldn't use anything less than the Game Fixes Only mod, since the original was so darn buggy, and some of the stuff was just way off as to historical accuracy.

Honestly though, once you have one of the supermods installed for it, and find the one you like, you might do like the rest of us, and never go back to stock.

But since stock is what you are used to, the GFO mod might be the ticket to start with. And you may be completely happy with just that.

But if you feel the need to, you can try one of the other supermods at your choice. Leave yourself open to options. TMO tries to balance accuracy with gameplay.

FOTRS is based on TMO, but went off on it's own direction, and has added more shiptypes and planes.

RFB has done the best it can to make it a challenge by turning off a lot of the automatic stuff, and tweaking things that fit their style of play.

And if you want more historical accuracy, the Run Silent Run Deep mod adds historical shipping so that early in the war, you will have tons of merchants and task forces to keep you busy, but b the end of the war, you will like the real subs, mainly be using your deckgun to take out fishing boats and sampans.

It is compatable with TMO and RFB, so it can be added over them without causing any ill sided effects.

So there are many options to choose from.

If you're into it, there is a radio station mod that plays old time radio programs, and there is music too from the period you can listen to. Kinda cool to tune in to AFR from Midway or Honolulu, or Austrailia, or pick up radio Tokyo and hear Tokyo Rose broadcasting.

I am a long way from figuring it out, lots of reading and I have been online showing how to install them.

I know a lot more than I did.

Thanks again, guys.

Once you get a good mod install up and running, you will not want to go back to stock. :yep:

By definition, if you any have mods installed you are not playing stock, but the beauty of JSGME is that you can easily remove the mods if you want to play stock again - or if you want to try a different mod.

I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this, but if you are playing a career, you should only install mods when your boat is in harbour - in between patrols. Otherwise the game may crash, or your saved games may become unusable (or "corrupted" in geek-speak).

If you are installing a super-mod (the huge ones, TMO, RFB, FOTRS, & RSRD being the chief Super-mods for the Pacific), then you should also start a new career - for the same reasons.
