More weirdness.

Things had been fine since my last post on this thread, until tonight. I was on patrol, and got a radio intercept for a convoy. I made a successful blind attack, middle of the night in a storm, didn't see any of my contacts. I put myself 90 degrees off their course and 1000m away, and fired at hydrophone directions. This was with full realism. Sorry for the digression. I had to brag to someone, girlfriend does not care!)

Anyway. I had to leave the house, so I paused and alt-tabbed. When I cam back a few hours later, as I escaped, everytime my watch officer sighted a ship, I'd hear "schiff gezeiten" twice, in two different voices! Also, that's all he'd say, both when he reported on his own, or when I asked for nearest contact. The text in both instances was correct. But always two guys' voices.

I stumbled right on a destroyer in the murk and had to crash dive. Took some damage. While down there, I got eight or ten messages in the text box that just said "CE:". Like the beginning of all messages from the CE, but blank. No voice either. He would report the depth just fine.

Very strange.

To give the end of my digression, I eventually got away (I don't think the destroyers had ASDIC, can that happen?) but my two periscopes and radio antenna are unfixable, as is my conning tower. Minor to moderate damage elsewhere. I battled flooding for an hour, and I have but a single aft torp left. IDK if I'll make it back around England to home. But hey, three ships sunk!

I notice this sometimes. I've always assumed it was because the ship was off in a direction where one of the four watch crew spotted it first, and called it out... then the WO repeats it.

Sometimes there is a delay between the "schiff gesichtet" and the report of range and bearing, occasionally long enough to be annoying. I don't know why that is. Eventually I always get the full report, though, either by waiting or clicking. :DL

If your not @100% realism the Esc key can be a Godsend :03:

They definitely never said the range and bearing. It did say it in the text, so it wasn't too much of an issue. But it was a double report every time (which was extremely often, since in the storm they kept losing and reacquiring contacts). Including when I clicked.

Any idea on the blank CE text report w/ no voice accompanying?

You mean the "return to port" option? I've never used it while out at sea, only when next to harbor (when it'll actually say "Wilhelmshaven" or whatever). Does that teleport you all the way to your home port?

If so, I'd rather not. Too cheaty for my tastes.

I've noticed that one voice is the watch officer. Not unusual. The other seems to be the navigator... I could be hearing it wrong, though.

This is frustrating. It's like in Das Boot: "I want some PROPER damage reports!"

So this is something that happens to everyone?

If you're running at less than 100 percent realism, you'll get a 'Return to Base' option.

Hyperventilating in sheer terror?

This happens to me, too, and while I do not know the cause, it is never a good sign.

I get that too, and it's annoying.
If it doesn't come with a bearing and range, I'd rather not hear it.

Can a sound file be removed to shut them up, without compromising the boats safety?
(IE, so only the WO is audable, and not the watch crew).
If so, it would also fix the Continuous Ship Spotted/Sighted, permanently.

Had a similar problem. I edited the menu.txt file as suggested in the second reply but somehow it kept reverting! Solved it by disabling all mods and enabling them one by one.

I noticed that the ACM reloaded for OHC mod made the change in the txt file. I reinstalled that mod but this time I added the line in the menu file of the mod itself. This resolved the issue for me.
