I have an AMD 960 Chipset (2.08 Ghz processor), 160 GB Seagate HD, 2 GB, PC3800 DDR Ram, PNY 512 mb video card, HD Litescribe DVD-RW, Envision 19" Widescreen monitor.

Need more info?

Yes, what circumstances are the saved games corrupting?

What chipset GPU? What OS?

Yeah, it is more difficult than stock (so far for me it is!) but stock was bloody hard when I first moved up from SH2 and I don't see it being any steeper a learning curve just going to GWX than doing it the way I did. And the extra ships, better graphics, more realistic experience etc etc make the stock game look increasingly lame in comparison now I'm GWXing.

Plus it saves you getting used to UI features that are then changed in GWX, I keep looking in the wrong places for stuff now :damn:

That I couldn't tell you.

I built this computer from Tigerdirect.com.

I think it had an nvidia chipset.

But, I have a PCIExpress 16 Nvidia GeForce 8500(?) 512 mb video card.

Don't know if the above info helps.

The nvidia Geforce 8500 is your GPU.

frau kaleun 01-26-11 11:02 PM

GPU = (I think) Graphics Processing Unit (?)* or what I've always called the "video card" or, when I was feeling a bit more hep than usual, a "graphics card." Some days I would get really crazy and type "gfx card" instead.

*I just figured this out, like, yesterday.

The GWX manual is extremely impressive. Can't wait to take this out for a spin!

I'm also trying to switch over from vanilla SH3 from STeam to using GWX 3.0. Similarly, I'm getting the mods detected error message. I've got no mods, redownloaded/installed the game from Steam and I've tried saving GWX to numerous different folders. Nothing seems to keep the mods detected message from popping up. Anyone know what the deal is?

Bakkels 04-26-11 03:59 PM

If you uninstall, I think there's a sh3 folder somewhere in your SteamApps folder that needs to be deleted too. (Not sure though, I don't have the Steam version)
Also, in 'My Documents' there is a Sh3 folder. I think you gotta delete that one too.

Thanks for your help. I already deleted the one that was in "My Documents."

Well, I got past the modding error message I was getting, and now I'm at the next setup/installation page. However now its telling me

"C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\silent hunter 3\JoneSoft.txt

An error occurred while trying to read the source file: The source file is corrupted.

Click Retry to try again, Ignore to skip this file (not recommended), or Abort to cancel installation."

My lack of computer skills is frustrating:damn:

stokeyblokey 04-26-11 04:29 PM

JK07 - that is a text file describing the Jonesoft Generic Mod Enabler - try to click "Ignore" and see if the rest procedes smoothly, you can always read that file later after all, and all the info is here on the forum (or I can email you the text file).

I suspect that it will say the same thing about the next few files as well, and no doubt they will be something important so don't Ignore those unless you know what they are - but it is worth a try on this one!

Let us know how it goes.

You were right. It continues to pop up for the subsequent files as well.

I've been searching the forums for someone with this problem in the past, but no luck so far.

stokeyblokey 04-26-11 05:10 PM

Damn.

I have a starforce-free CD version so have never had to install GWX onto a Steam version before, not sure what could be causing the problem other than a corrupted download of GWX.

Just to check - have you used a program to check the downloaded GWX files are not corrupted - eg: http://www.winmd5.com/ which is freeware?

In with the GWX.exe and .bin files there is one called GWX.md5.md5 - try to open that and it should say Windows cannot open this file etc - choose the option to tell Windows how to open it (that is on Win7, on XP you can right click and choose "Open with.." if I remember correctly) - then choose Notepad and you should see a list like this:

9570f781cf01bab3f62ba4c1f9004752 *GWX3.exe
26d9990cb1c0432dcc842e7944527716 *GWX3-1.bin
bc5ff15ef32aea5e3c32d7e13444eab7 *GWX3-2.bin
3f05acc6c52d2ba3d85b6355943d3fad *GWX3-3.bin
d047a888f99633e9e612245feb9b790c *GWX3-4.bin
dee9928fa1988e256f0adabfee956371 *GWX3-5.bin
b723696a596633c32079d1f28746cca1 *GWX3-6.bin
2126d073454513a3bb27777e38ef907f *GWX3-7.bin

Now if you open the winmd5 program you downloaded from the link I posted and click on the top button which says "Browse" then point it to the GWX.exe file first, check the MD5 "checksum" (string of gibberish numbers and letters to us normal folk!) to make sure they match the ones in the MD5 file - or in my post of course! Do this for each of the GWX-1.bin -2.bin etc files til you have checked each one.

If any of them do not match then your download is corrupted and you need to grab GWX again from their website.

Let us know what you find out - and good luck!

Stokey :salute:

yesterday would have been good

JK07 04-27-11 01:36 AM

That did it! Thanks again Stokey.

I'm a newb who started with GWX, never played stock at all. Can't say I regret the decision.

It's hard, but then, I chose to go near-full realism right out of the gate (I leave on event cam, since I need to see what's happening while I learn). I've added some other mods that give me more tools for plotting and calculating (OLC Gold, ACM+ACM Lite map).

GWX has a lot of optional mods with it, an amazing manual, plus many of the other mods I've seen in the downloads section are either compatible or built specifically for it.

GWX seems similar in concept to the Complete mods for the STALKER games. Those are basically super-vanilla. They fix the bugs, add features that should have been in the game but weren't due to time constraints or whatever (or could have been but weren't due to limitations of technology or whatever), and pretty it up a whole bunch. They're kind of like the game as it should have been, had the developers had infinite time and money.

Any STALKER players here? Does that comparison fit?

Can I just say at this point and for future reference that there have been some reports of problems from people who have downloaded the files from our website and as such those files on my FF site (link above my sig) are now considered the only official files that are safe.

Righty-ho - just to let you know that I downloaded the GWX3.0 torrent file instead of the installer (probably from your FF Jim but I honestly cannot remember) and have been seeding it ever since.

That works a treat for anyone who is familiar with using a torrent client and was super-fast compared to a direct download (I maxed my connection all the way through!).

It will also always be seeded whilst my PC is on and right now it has 20 seeds so I suspect a fair few other GWXers feel the same way :salute:

Aye, rgr that and cheers.

I'm also seeding GWX3.0 single file exe as well as the 8 file version and GWX2.0 and 2.1.

The more the merrier.
