Had the devs been content just to take SH3 and beef up the graphics and tweak a few things, I have no doubt we'd all be pretty happy now. Having now played SH3 with the GWX megamod all that's missing are the SH5 engines shadows.

To be frank I don't think there's a lot to be done. SH3 pretty much got the scope of U-boat warfare covered from a gamers point of view. You got your patrol area and fought your boat how you liked. Your crew could be specialised and improved, the historical tech updates could be fitted when they came available, and you even got to try out the newer subs. The only thing left was improving the graphics and AI.

Compare SH3 stock to Sh5 stock and you'll see the game has much more POTENTIAL. I'm not saying this potential has been reached (no where near it), but what I'm saying is that, given the time and patience, Sh5 will be one of the greatest WW2 U-boat subsims of all time (if not the last :wah:)

Give it time, like you had to with its great predecessors, and you won't be disappointed.

Thing is. Itīs 2010 and a multimillionarie company like Ubisoft releases products that shouldnīt even been comparable to what a team of unpaid, yet dedicated, modders did a couple of years ago. Never the less, we come to the conclusion that SH3/GWX3 is so good that a stock-game (Silent Hunter 5) canīt be compared with it. Itīs embarrasing for the market. We must have higher demands than this.

I donīt say that SH5 hasnīt potential, i see it, but it demanded MASSIVE modding. Which isnīt what itīs suppose to be in 2010.

So far the best thing about SH5 is the graphics and mods the guys have done to make the sim playable. If it wasn't for those 2 things, I'd be out on the skeet range with my SH5 cd. PULL!

I like to think that BDU gives you some fingerpoint of what amount of tonnage THEY HOPED you to sink. But when the engine points out "sink x amount of Battleship or cruisers" and they have lost me.

So, to ask again, regardless of BDU telling me to go to area X to destroy X amount of tonnage (Which was the same as SH3 anyway..well not the tonnage bit) , is there anything to stop me going halfway around the world to reach area Y and destroy a fishing trawler, before returning home if i so please???

And again on the U-Boat numbers, despite there only being one type of U-boat, is there anything stopping me staying with the same numbered u-boat for the whole war (or 1943).

Thanks

Request a mission , there are multiple ones or dont request a mission and play like sh3/4 . Play however you like because unlike sh3/4 you have a choice . Install the mod Lite campaign 1.2 to reduce the silly high tonnage requests .

Thanks

This is sounding promising....i was in fear of being told i HAD to go to a certain area, with only that area being available, and not being able to leave until i had sunk given tonnage!!

Any word on the progress of a super mod? i know it will be a case of its done when its done, but any idea of what stage its at??

Go to the SH5 mods page and read TheDarkWraith's thread on his megamod. It's coming along, it's the only one so far and he tells all there.

I understand what you are saying that in this day and age, the product should have been finished. But look at some of Ubisoft's present releases, as well as the rest of the SH series from when they took over and it's the same story. Over and over again.

Also, on the note that SH5 demands MASSIVE modding. Check out Sh3, and 4. 3 has almost reached its highest potential (some might say it has with GWX) and SH4 has, in my opinion not reached its full potential. How many mods do these releases have? How many are fix-its? How many actually improve gameplay and add new features. To me, Sh5 is still getting through the fix-it stage (which yes I agree that this stage should be fulfilled by beta testing and by the producers). We've still got a long way to go before Sh5 becomes comparable to a GWX Sh3/SH4UBM+OM, but by God, when it does get to that level, watch out. It's gonna be one hell of a sim.
