Question: If you know you are overweight (like I do) why the devil would you go into the armed forces unless conscripted? :hmmm: Surely, if you had your heart set on it, it would be easier to go through a fitness course first, lose the weight and THEN join up...rather than go in Private Pyles style and wind up physically and mentally screwed.

Maybe some figure the military is the ultimate weight-loss program? For example, I hear Ranger school is supposed to be a great way to drop pounds... ;)

Actually I got that joke from a guy interviewed at Walter-Reed. He lost a leg to an IED, but said on the plus side he lost 15 pounds.

In my experience, servicemembers are some of the funniest people I've met. I guess a sense of humor can be very helpful :hmmm:
