This is the first forum that is so friendly. I have been on a lot of them (no not just bragging about my system all the time :haha: ) and not a single one ever offered such help. Thanks guys you really are great. :salute:

Doolar Semler isn't that card a bit to expensive? It still costs quite a lot here I checked. And isn't it pci-e? Thanks for your help.

Doolar 08-06-10 06:29 AM

XFX Video card

no it not expensive , we could work out a trade or something ,ya know . i would rather see this card in use , sinking ships then to be mothballed on my shelf .

Herr-Berbunch 08-06-10 06:47 AM

I'm sure nobody here is uber-flash with the cash, but we all want the same thing, for SH (all flavours) to be enjoyed to the best of it's ability, and we'll all do our best to get people beyond scraping by.

Have you discovered what RAM you can take yet? :D

ediko 08-06-10 06:50 AM

Are you sure it still is expensive where I live.(I checked).

So do you want a cat? Hes fluffy, loves to hug eats a lot and is rather useless :)

Now if I'm serious I would love that card but I'm not really sure what I could offer you in exchange. As you already know all my electronics are fubar.

So I'm a bit lost know.

Didn't see your post Herr-Berbunch.

This is what cpuz is showing. So it means that my ram is ddr. When I view individual plates in cpuzz it shows frequency latency and what not so I'm not sure what you need to know? Sorry if there are some typos this keyboard is driving me mad. (My sis tought it's a cool idead to order a 2 $ silicon keyboard from Honk Kong, but well it's at least better than on screen keyboard)

Herr-Berbunch 08-06-10 10:11 AM

Right, looking at that graphic, you appear to have DDR400 (also known as PC3200). BUT, and that is a big but, I suggest you check out www.crucial.com and run their memory advisor tool from their homepage before trying to stick anything in your PC.

If you can take PC3200 you should be able to take PC2700, which although slightly slower it's something I've got sat at home. But run that tool above first and let us know, it should let you know exactly what type and how much you can take!

Herr-Berbunch 08-06-10 11:05 AM

And is your 320 Gig HDD totally bustedbrokerfuffled? And is that what OS/SH3 are on or are they on your 74 Gig HDD? Or split between the two?

Try running something like CCleaner from Piriform to get rid of any unwanted files (temp folders, things like that), get rid of any programs you downloaded ages ago and don't really use anymore, scan with the reg cleaner, and fix any issues (DO save a backup as offered).

Defrag the HDDs, I use Defraggler also from Piriform (both free!), but Microsoft do have a built-in one that can be just as good. Before you defrag it's a good idea to have as little running as possible, disconnect from t'interweb.

Also take a vacuum cleaner or air duster to the internals, being very careful not to knock anything, and don't blow too hard too close with the duster. Include fans/vents/filters if you have any. Obviously before you delve inside, turn it off, remove the power cable and wait for any lights that are on the motherboard to go out before you stick your hands in.

ediko 08-06-10 02:33 PM

Yeah the drive is siting inside doing nothing since I disconnected it from all wires. It is beyond repair as far as all the programs I tried said (I tried a LOT) and was causing constant crashes, bsodm, hangs etc. I did all I could to make the system better. (I advise adcanced system care btw, its free and has a lot ofgood stuff in it)
http://www.crucial.com/systemscanner...74863231D926C3 Here is that sites result. If you don't see it I can make a screen.

Oh a bit offtopic but anyone from Kiel here? I'm going too Germany for a week tomorrow (My school sends everyone who learns German for one practice week). There is going to be some shopping in Kiel or some other nonsense. I really want to get to Laboe and see u995 but it's quite far and I won't make it on foot I guess. Maybe someone who's been there knows some kind of transport. :salute:

Alright since there's just 3 hour of sleep left for me I'm going to bed now. I will bump this thread in a week or so and report if I will make any progress. Thanks for all the help guys really appreciating it!

No ... I got a mean cat , that won't work ... but all kidding aside . If ya want the XFX 7600gt , i'll send it to ya . Its doing me no good just sitting on the shelf . I would like to see someone put it to good use ( sinking merchants that is ) . I really don't need anything in return , but I thought that sounded fun . Again its only got 256mb DDR3 memory and it is an AGP 8x . If interested , PM me your address . Jerry

As I said in post #4. A later typo doesn't count if I got it right the first time. :O:

Reminds me of when I bought my first 32Mb Nvidia card, that thing was top of the line when I bought it :haha: I just bought a Zotac 512Mb though to use in my old rig, it only cost me $59.99 at futureshop

I hear you there, I had to quit playing SH3 about a month or two ago because my computers temperature started to hit 100 degrees, peaking at about 120 before shutting down. So I'm just finishing up a new build, can't wait to attack another convoy.

Was that a desktop or a notebook? My previous notebook experienced soaring temperatures, in spite of all my precautions: never put it on a soft surface, always use a flat, hard support underneath and preferably a cooling mat. The first time it began to run hot, I disassembled it down to a bare chassis and replaced the CPU/heatsink combo. Man, that is a chore! It ran fine for a year and a half after that, but recently began to run hot again. This time, I was able to source a new part from an American supplier, but to no avail. It still runs in the mid 70's; last time I ran it it hit 80 Celsius, which is very hot, even for an AMD mobile CPU. It has become unstable to the point of uselessness. The sound jitters, like when you speak into a fan, and the mouse pointer skips across the screen. I always had my data backed up, so I didn't lose anything. I replaced it last week with a new gaming notebook with very high specs and it just eats through GWX and asks, "Is that all you got?" Even in convoy battles it just breezes through with no lag at all.

Yeah an HP G50 Laptop, I'm pretty sure that it is the GPU/HDD making most of that heat, I was thinking of applying some new TC under the Heatsinks (as well as cleaning them) Also I have mine sitting on top of a grill (BBQ maybe?:haha:) so it kinda floats there

What kind of laptop? mine has a 2.1 Sempron (a tough little chip that one is)
I am also a pretty heavy smoker so it tends to suck that up also (needs constant vent cleaning) Also how do you change a laptops CPU, I always thought those were integrated like the GPU's are?

K-61 08-07-10 12:46 AM

It's an HP Pavilion dv8120ca. It has an AMD Turion CPU at 2 GHz. It has a lovely 17 inch widescreen, but the graphics card is too weak for even stock SH3, something which I realized to my chagrin only after I had bought it. Thus, the reason why when I replaced it I got a high spec gaming notebook by ASUS. I've replaced CPU's in desktops and servers, but never in a notebook; the only ones I've worked on have been my own. What I replaced was the CPU cooling fan, not the CPU itself.

You've probably already been told, but smoking near a computer is very bad for the machine. I've cleaned smokers' computers and they are absolutely vile inside. All the dust in a chassis in a non-smoker's computer is silver/gray, but a smoker's dust is tarry and brown. I have cleaned my brother's a few times and it is a chore. He doesn't smoke, but he lets his buddies light up in his house and smoke dope, something which I would kill someone for if they tried it in my home.

Yeah I know, so with my latest build I am being careful. When I smoke I try to do so in another room but mostly I just open the door and blow the smoke out to another room :haha: though I should try those patches

Here is a little bump as I already mentioned here somewhere. Man was Germany great! I felt like I stepped in a **** when I returned (and no I'm not the only one who felt that way ). Was just great fun ( u995 was pretty epic too lol, never thought those torpedoes are so big)

Anyway thanks Doolar Semler and Herr-Berbunch I'm PM'ing you now
