That just about sums up the learning curve

hehe, that's the one alright :DL

Not really much of an MMO player. Those things are just chock full of internet tough guys. Yes, we have them on the forums too, but give them the ability to kill your character and they take it to a new level. Really just ruins the experience for me.

Is this game any more exciting to play yet?

Last I tried this game, was a few months after Earth & Beyond was shut down. (which was years ago). From what i could tell, it was an economy simulation in space where you did one of three things. Run repedative missions from some stupid NPC, mining, or gank the people doing either of those activities.

I played it for 2 weeks before the boring monotony took the upper hand, and i canceled my account before my first 30 free days had expired. I'ts not like E&B was any less repedative, but at least in that game you could explore some planet surfaces, dock at space stations and get out of your ship and walk around, and stuff like that. Eve had NONE of that. Just rock pounding in space or mindless errand boy missions. :damn:

i know the feeling. ive tried to get into eve online twice now, the last time i was playin was april last year and it was 6 months or so before i got fed up again. thing is, there looks to be a great game in there somewhere but i still havent been able to find it.

i initially went into it hopin for a elite/wing commander type experience but that didnt happen.

ive never done any pvp yet and ive been told that adds a new dimension, it is a multiplayer game after all. but the whole game seems a very hands off experience.

the winner of any pvp battle will be who has the best/relevant ship fittings and even then all your doin is clicking a button to attack.

i think it would be much more engaging if you could actually fly the ship, like in X3 for example. the way i see it, x3 does everthing eve online does + no monthly sub.

but every now and again though i get the urge to try it again, thinkin maybe this time it will stick.

This is a great game on many levels for whatever floats your boat. Yes there are boring parts that make you want to quit sometimes and I almost did until I was found by a small but active corp. You must find a corp. Corporations add a whole new level to gameplay from trading to PvP. I have been playing for over 6 months with my corp and have not gottten bored as my corp is great and is always willing to help me, taking me from a small destroyer to a my own Battleship, whether it is money, and extra gun, or helping me fit my ship (which makes me really confused). I have played other MMO's and the player base in EVE is MUCH more serious then other games.

I think the best way to experience eve is by reading the accounts of what happened to other people. That way you don' have to wait on a gate security detail for the 4 hours before anyone comes through into your setor. The four hours makes the ten seconds of action seem much more interesting.

I stopped playing Eve when I found I was reading a book in between waiting for something to happen. Someone reviewed it by saying 'Eve does the impossible: It makes space boring'.

The one really good thing about Eve is the economy, where everything in game is made by the players. This also means that it's more difficult to get started in a small business, as you are less efficient and can't create new products, but it's the least broken economy out there.

I used to be a part of Oberon Inc in Morsus Mihi. Good Alliance.

Anyways, I used to play but my last computer's graphics card had an issue with the game and forced me to quit... one day I'll get playing again I guess.

That's the guy that does 'Zero Punctuation' on the escapist. His views are generally the opposite of mine (I like simulations, he likes action; I like sandbox, he likes linear play), but his reviews are a laugh riot. I'd link a few, but there is some pretty questionable language involved.

Always get the impression it's more entertainment than review. Maybe equal parts of both. :hmmm:

I'll be damned, I allmost joined Morsus Mihi just recently, but at the last moment opted for Enterprise Estonia instead, we should be resurecting Cult of War later this fall and will see whose teeth we kick in then.

Edit: Ohyeah my main is Anti Kondor, if anyone wants to say hi/threaten to make by ship go pop, morphing me into an eg and leaving me wondering if i had leveled up.

Wolfehunter 09-09-10 06:44 AM

One thing about eve I learned expect the unexpected. day two of playing I joined a corp... 2 days after that we at war with pirate faction.... YAY...

My little destroyer kicks ass since the equipment tech 2 is worth 18 milion....

war baby... Its a good day to die.. :03:

I'm on on a trial account now. Really like it so far, though to say that I have only scratched the surface would be an overstatment.

Anyone here playing actively for the momment?

No but more than once I've had mouse cursor over 'purchase' button. I'm just afraid that I would to sink too much time to it. But still I frequently think about getting this...

Spyguy101 11-24-11 02:27 PM

It's easy to sink time into this, but I wish I was more interested. It seems that the longer I play , the more time I need to invest into it.

kiwi_2005 11-24-11 03:46 PM

In Eve when you lose your ship that might of taken you weeks/months to get you lose it for good. :damn:

Raptor1 11-24-11 03:58 PM

And that's a bad thing? It's one of the many things that make EVE better than most MMORPGs, in my opinion.

seaniam81 11-24-11 04:39 PM

I agree with Raptor1. If you loose your ship that has taken you ages to get you'll be more careful next time wont you.

kiwi_2005 11-24-11 04:58 PM

^ Diehard Eve players true to the bone. I like it.

Besides I have no idea I never lost my ship, :O:. I never got that far to lose a good ship. I played Eve for about 4 months then quit. I read many reviews as I new this game was a gem behind the spreadsheets but I didn't have the patience. I came across a review of a guy who had played for 6-7 months got himself a cruiser or something and lost it all in one pvp battle. That's heavy stuff man.
