^^ What about SH6 minus Ubi, Ducimus? Could be done. :yep:
With regards to any "uppity video game industry upstarts": they may not make a fortune off of us, but we sure as hell are good friends to have. So, if there are any uppity video game industry upstarts reading this, please take note. We make damn good friends. :salute: |
The situation for Ubisoft does not look good at all. I can't say for sure without looking at their net worth, or any press conferences, but I imagine that they will be accquired by someone else soon. If they are accquired, it is anyone's guess as to whether Ubisoft Romania will remain. I simply cannot make an educated guess on this subject, so I'll just cross my fingers.

Well, a basic common-sense law of commerce is that if you do bad business, you lose your business. I think Ubisoft has done bad business over the last couple of years. Their executive decision-makers have seriously misjudged the nature of the market and made some very bad decisions. It's only fair that they and their shareholders pay for them - the dedicated players have already paid plenty.

Releasing unfinished, rushed, buggy games, running unsufficient patching business and maintaining lousy customer relations, does not make you a champion with your intended customers. |
I think it's more accurate to say that some of their titles and franchises will be missed.
I don't know if Ubisoft going down would really be a good or bad thing for gaming. It's probably not very good. But in order to break the status quo, sacrifices have to be made... the industry can't move forward when it's dominated by the likes of EA and Ubi. |
^^ The pot really needs a good stirring. Big companies have the resources to mass-publish, mass-advertise a game. But big companies also have a way of looking after their own gains before anything else.

They did it to themselves. They can only blame themselves for there own stupidity. But I'm sure they blame pirates... lol :har::arrgh!:

If they do go down the pan (and I sincerely hope they don't) the majority of the cause will have been self inflicted.
Money is extremely tight for every customer base these days and the only way your going to get them to part with any of that money is by having the products that are attractive to them. |
The irony to me is that I personally consider EA to be just as bad, if not worse. EA is notorious for releasing lots of half finished, buggy or broken games, pretending they will fix them, and then dumping them. Only their triple A titles get any kind of attention or polish (the sims). Then of course there is EA sports, which releases the same game with a few touch-ups year after year after year after year after year. They also are fans of draconian DRM (though smart enough to back off when the consumer backlash hit). Last they love to release tons of stupid little addons and other crap.
Anyhow, I hope they finish the Assassin's Creed series before going under (oh and they better strip the online DRM). It's about the only series I have any interest in from them any more. |
EA is definitely worse. People barely even noticed when EA used the online-required DRM even before Ubi...

The drop in stock price has more to do with the ongoing worldwide recession than anything else. Most analysts still rate Ubi has a good long term investment. It will be around for many years for everyone to continue taking shots at... |
Seeing what's happened to the SH series has chased me away from Ubisoft altogether. RUSE looked kind of interesting, but when I found out that it was published by Ubisoft, I refuse to even consider buying it.
They fail to realize that by not putting out quality products, even if they're niche products like the SH games, they affect sales of all their product lines. I doubt they'll be out of business, but I don't doubt they'll be gobbled up by someone if the share price gets low enough. |

This year Ubi shifted 9 million copies of Assasins Creed 2. I don't think Ubi is about to just disappear with sales numbers like that. Although judging by their latest just announced title they deserve to!! |

Only time will tell if their Reputation is all that important to them. It wasn't with a company like Imron and others. The ball is in their court now. We shall see how they handle it. SHV has only been out roughly 3 1/2 mo. To second guess how they'll handle it is a waste of time and reminds me of a bunch of old ladies wringing their hands and fretting. The game is playable and modable at this time. It's when you can't logon and play is when UBI has some legal questions. to answer. As far as a patch goes if, you haven't seen one by Sept ( 6 mo's ) you can assume support in that area is over. My BET is a Patch that ends DRM and then allows you to play offline and online on theirs other servers by September. |

Don't care about the project Natal, oh sorry, Kinect nonsense, but "Dust" looks promising and actually refreshing. Ubi ain't going nowhere. :-? |
