Hi i've just added this to my SH3 directory but i'm unsure as how to change the main.cfg to have monitor settings for 1440x900. Is there a guide somewhere? :hmmm:
|
Yes, in the download section on subsim it describes what to do.
It is not, however, included in the readme for the mod!!! As I remember from last night you just edit the config file (can't remember what it was called) and enter in whatever resolution you want. It's obvious what the entries are to edit. There are 4 files to copy into your SH3 directory. That is included in the readme file. Steve |
Simply browse to Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 3 and look for a file that is called .cfg and open it.Then look for an entry that alters resolution,as maillemaker mentioned this entry should be obvious as the current resolution will be displayed next to it,then edit the file to your desired resolution, then at the top of the screen click 'file' then 'save' then 'save as' ,then overwrite it,and then close the edit screen.
This then should enable the resolution you want. NOTE: always have a backup of your original .cfg file, just in case. And do this with any other file you decide to edit in the future. |

Now I remember! :damn: I removed the cameras.dat file and got the 10x zoom back... I play with MEP and with a 20km environment so it helps to have a long lens! :D

I have uninstalled SH3 and reinstalled in compatibility mode XP, and it does-not-work. I have tested with stock+1.4b+no_dvd_thing.
I have also reinstalled the DX9 that comes with SH3 disc, no luck. Tested with DX9 from july 2008, no success. Always the same error. I use the last nvidia drivers. Widescreen fix works ok, though. A pity that it has not an option to scale the 2D screens... |
I changed my resolution to 1440x900 as YukonJack suggested and it works fine - now when you exit the periscope/uzo it does not fire a torpedo.
I think I'm going to install some of the alternative UZO/periscope torpedo control mods so that the fire button is moved so I can go back to 1920 x 1080. Darkblue, I don't know what your problem is. I am running Windows 7 64bit Professional, Core i7-930 on an Asus P6T SE motherboard. I installed SH3 in its default folder (it went in the x86 program files folder), and installed GWX3 using the default options also. My graphics card is an Nvidia GeForce 5500 with 1GB of ram. I used the drivers that came on the CD with it. The hi-res mod works fine for me. Only problem is it crashes to desktop if I hit print-screen to take a screen shot. Last night I torpedoed my first enemy submarine ever and hit print-screen to try and get a screen shot and the game crashed. :( Steve |
I tested it in Windows7 32 bits, and it does not work neither :x ! And the drivers were not the last ones, they are the previous ones. So now, I am really lost.
Anout the AA, the AA only works using the HiRes fix? I have tried in NV control panel and also using nhancer and it does not work (of course without the HiRes fix, which is the main problem currently). |
I run two installations - one with and one without the resfix (for some reasons the one WITH the Resfix has been randomly CTD lately and I can't figure it out... worked fine for ages... maybe a MOD issue :06:) and I run BOTH with Antialaising set at 8xQ in the NVidia Control Panel. I'm running a Galaxy GeForce 9800GT 1GB with the 196.21 series drivers. Funny though - the game will not work at AA settings higher than 2x unless you choose 8xQ or 16xQ. Don't remember what the "Q" stands for but it works ;)
@Darkbluesky - PM me and I can send you my NVidia Settings from the Control Panel for SH3. Maybe it can help... |
Oh im so glad i read this thread, I just applied the Hi Res Fix and my god what a difference. Who needs SH5 with their DRM, my SH3 is like looking at a new game.
|
I cant get this resolution thingy to work
|
I tried this rez fix and wish I hadn't. It ran ok when starting in port but when I saved the patrol it wouldn't reload, just CTDed. started in port again ok but again when saved the save CTDed, this happened every time. Also I could not run the game faster than x64 if I tried it CTDed. Tried all sorts of cures but none worked in the end I did a complete reinstall but as expected my saved carear did not work so after 14 sucessful patrols I have to start all over again, what I get for trying it on vista 32 I guess.

Rogue Fish in 1920x1080 fix
Hi guys,
I'm a noob to this forum stuff so I'll try to relay to you the fix I found in the Subsim forums for this issue. It has completely resolved my problems which were pretty much identical to Maillemaker. Link: [URL="http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showpost.php?p=1517282&postcount=6"] If I didn't do that right, here's the text: "Firstly, you need to check your activated mods to see if any contain the following file: menu_1024_768.txt (A windows searcg for this file name should show all locations of this file) If they do, you need to deactivate and create backup copies. Depending on whether any mods use it depends on how many times you need to make the following changes: The following items are from the default menu_1024_768.txt in GWX 3.0 - If the block numbers are different, you can just search for the term "Name=Torp launch". Find you copies of the menu_1024_768.txt (usually this is C:\Program Files\.....\data\Menu) and right-click and choose Open With - Notepad. Once the file is open, hit Ctrl+F to bring up the search function and look for these blocks: [G26 I45] Name=Torp launch Type=1032;Button <--- Change this to 1031 ItemID=0x26080005 ParentID=0x26080000 Pos=200,-168,52,52 Materials=4 Display=0;No stretch Mat 0=data/menu/gui/Periscope.tga Crop 0=0.477539,0.817383,1,1 Mat 1=data/menu/gui/Periscope.tga Crop 1=0.477539,0.817383,1,1 Mat 2=data/menu/gui/Periscope.tga Crop 2=0.477539,0.817383,1,1 Mat 3=data/menu/gui/Periscope.tga Crop 3=0.529297,0.817383,1,1 MatFlags=0x21 TexFmt=0x9 Font=1 TextFlags=0x0 StatesColors=0xB0B0B0FF, 0xFF, 0xFFFFFFFF, 0xFFFFFFFF [G28 I34] Name=Torp launch Type=1032;Button <--- Change this to 1031 ItemID=0x28080005 ParentID=0x28080000 Pos=201,-167,52,52 Materials=4 Display=0;No stretch Mat 0=data/menu/gui/Periscope.tga Crop 0=0.477539,0.817383,1,1 Mat 1=data/menu/gui/Periscope.tga Crop 1=0.477539,0.817383,1,1 Mat 2=data/menu/gui/Periscope.tga Crop 2=0.477539,0.817383,1,1 Mat 3=data/menu/gui/Periscope.tga Crop 3=0.529297,0.817383,1,1 MatFlags=0x21 TexFmt=0x9 Font=1 TextFlags=0x0 StatesColors=0xB0B0B0FF, 0xFF, 0xFFFFFFFF, 0xFFFFFFFF [G2B I45] Name=Torp launch Type=1032;Button <--- Change this to 1031 ItemID=0x2B080005 ParentID=0x2B080000 Pos=200,-168,52,52 Materials=4 Display=0;No stretch Mat 0=data/menu/gui/Periscope.tga Crop 0=0.477539,0.817383,1,1 Mat 1=data/menu/gui/Periscope.tga Crop 1=0.477539,0.817383,1,1 Mat 2=data/menu/gui/Periscope.tga Crop 2=0.477539,0.817383,1,1 Mat 3=data/menu/gui/Periscope.tga Crop 3=0.529297,0.817383,1,1 MatFlags=0x21 TexFmt=0x9 Font=1 TextFlags=0x0 StatesColors=0xB0B0B0FF, 0xFF, 0xFFFFFFFF, 0xFFFFFFFF When you're happy & done, save the file. This will make every Torpedo Launch button in the game unclickable, meaning the only way to launch is to use Ctrl+Enter. Let me know if there's any problems". Many thanks to Danlisa for making this post! This has completely resolved my issues in GWX3 at 1920x1080. And the torps still fire by mouse click on my system. I agree with you Maillemaker, SH3 is a beautiful experience at 1920x1080, especially when using my 46" Samsung LED TV as a monitor:woot: Happy Hunting in high res:up: |

Google brought me to this thread.
I'm running Win7, 64bit. Has anyone gotten this mod to work? Or should I try another workaround to ramp up my graphics? |
Win 7 64 bit, nothing heppans still 1024x768 after I run this :( anyone have a solution ?
|
With my rig - NVidia 540M - I can use any of the widescreen mods. At 1366x768. But not at high-rez. The only high-res mod that I have gotten to run with my system is Van1920x1080, and it's gives me great performance. I highly recommend it.

HiRes fix makes no difference
I talked about this in the Windows 7 thread (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...&postcount=445) but didn't get a reply, so I thought I'd put it in a thread more to do with this particular subject.
Anything I try seems to make no difference, I just get 1024x768. I'm running Windows 7 64Bit with SH3 from Steam (1.4b) with SH3 Commander and 2 Mods (4GB and HiResFix). My monitor is 1600x1200 with a ATI Radeon 4850 card, so I don't even need Widescreen, just HiRes. I've tried everything I can think of, apart from doing a clean install of SH3(though I could try that, assuming I don't lose my Career?). Can anyone who has used the HiRes fix successfully please tell me what they did? Thanks... J. |
Ok, I've actually figured out how to save my career and reload it if needed, so I did a uninstall and reinstall, and still no luck, I can't get anything other than 1024x768.
Only difference from my previous posts is I realised that I got the game from Gamersgate, not Steam. Any ideas or suggestions at all? Do any of the supermods (GWX or NYGM) give HiRes as well? Thanks... Jason. |
SH3_XPSP2_Res_Fix_for_1.4b
Hello Jasonb,
I eventually found a satisfactory solution for using the "SH3_XPSP2_Res_Fix_for_1.4b" with SH3. Before starting SH3 Commander, I change my screen res to 1024*768, and then when SH3 gets to the Main Menu screen, I change my screen res to 1600*1200 and the game plays perfectly well. My OS is W7. Graphics are AMD Radeon HD 6570 The mods I use are: GWX3 GWX - Captain America's Officer Icons GWX - Enhanced Damage Effects GWX - Integrated Orders GWX - No Medals on Crew LifeBoats&Debris_v4 I eventually found this solution worked for me after a lot of trial and error. It works for me even without changing the screen res figures in the relevant cfg files mentioned in the various threads relating to this problem. It is a bit of a pain, having to change the screen res twice, before playing the game, but that's a very small price to pay for what is a very immersive game. I can only re-iterate, keep trying, keep looking on these excellent forums, where there is a lot of expertise, because SH3 combined with GWX3 is an awesome game, even after almost a decade.:yeah: |
