Ubisoft Says Server Downtime Due To Attacks

Quote:

Ubisoft have told Eurogamer that yesterday’s DRM server outages were caused by external attacks, and that they did not affect 95% of players. “Servers were attacked and while the servers did not go down, service was limited from 2.30pm to 9pm Paris time,” they explained to the big EG. They also apologise to those who were affected by this, explaining that they represented only 5% of players. This adds a sense of scale to the statements made by the Ubisoft community manager yesterday. It also acts as a confirmation from Ubisoft that their new DRM system is vulnerable to DOS attacks, meaning they are unable to ensure customers can play their single-player games.

Hackers don't like this so they run a DOS attack on Ubisofts servers.

This prevents everyone from playing the game.

And now it's Ubisofts fault because they came up with a DRM that the hackers can't fully defeat so they resort to DOS attacks to prevent you from enjoying the game you paid money for.

And everyone is mad at Ubisoft?

my head hurts

Color me skeptical :06:

We have reports from people all over the world with different type of problems... Servers sending updates and then freezing, people being kicked out, logins not accepted.

This does not look like a DDoS attack.

Add to this Ubisoft wonderful damage control. First they say it's 5% of european gamers, then they say it's solved only to put out a statament, soon after, that it's really a DDoS attack. :shifty:

Placing the blame on vengeful hackers... how convenient. :hmmm:

It's always other people fault. Liars and spinners rule the world economy. That's what you get with public companies. Everything done for the sake of the shares and bonus compensations. Take the money and run.

Username and password prob

For 3 hours this pm I was unable to play because of inability to connect with UBI server when in fact my internet connection was fine.
Managed to get 1 hour of play later but now when I try to play I get a "username/password error which is nonsense as I have been playing for 2 days before with same info.
This really is a total shambles and UBI need to remove this ludicrous system which they are clearly incapable of operating properly and we who have paid are suffering this total mess wasting our time and money.
UBI you need to act quickly to end this disgrace . It is in fact a criminal offence to sell a product which is not fit for its purpose ---and if it cannot be used by the purchaser it is not fit for purpose.
Yes Im damned angry at this appalling situation ......

Just to clarify something. SUBSIM is not owned or run by Ubi. It is a private concern.
The official UBI SH5 site is here - http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/frm/f/1121062387

bigboywooly 03-08-10 01:58 PM

Where do they get the 5% figure from ?
Couldnt play yesterday afternoon and still cant
Now its wrong username or password even though ticked to remember me

As Ducimus correctly stated you can forget modding under these circumstances
Just to be able to play would be a bonus ATM

Got it.

my head hurts

Would you mind backing that statement up with say a "link" ? :yep:

btw I'm not defending the Hackers.

Ubisoft Says Server Downtime Due To Attacks

kylania 03-08-10 02:02 PM

No, but now it's hung synchronizing games. Granted this is from work and I've played the heck out of it from home, but still shouldn't take this long.

bigboywooly 03-08-10 02:04 PM

Yeah getting that too
The forgot password link errors as well

John,

1) Certain Hack Groups have announced already last week that they are going to do this. UBI should have been prepared.

2) It's not yet even proven that this is indeed a DDOS, certainly I don't believe their "95%" number so why should I believe their excuse?

3) Even if it is a DDOS attack, it simple shows that UBI servers are vulnerable and instable - such attacks are simple part of the environment, they happen for Wold of Warcraft, Steam and all other major online systems. A good system has to be able and deal with such things.

4) If it wasn't a DDOS attack today, it might be server maintainance tomorrow, or a power outage the month afterwards. Or an interconnection problem on any number of routers between you and them.

This simple proves how idiotic a system is that requires an offline singleplayer game mode to be connected online. Because if they didn't insist on something that is technically not possible (a 100% flawless, working, ever reliable connection between your client and their server) it wouldn't matter what happens on UBI's end at all, where we as paying customers have zero technical influence.

A modder needs to be able to get into the game, quickly, cleanly, and on demand. It's a time consuming process, and this DRM garbage makes even more time consuming. No thank you, the frustration is not worth it to me.

it's VERY frustrating :damn: I'm just about fed up with it.

Why couldn't they at least made the tools not part of the login crap? That way I could at least fire up the editor to edit the UI I'm working on.....

kylania 03-08-10 02:08 PM

Well, now I'm getting the password error. YAY

Wonder if UbiSoft will try to claim it's only 5% of the player base this time too.

ironkross 03-08-10 02:09 PM

Same problem here, but loading now. So

TopCat 03-08-10 02:12 PM

Same here!
Yesterday it hanged, today this. If I used the words I liked for describing my feelings about ubi, I'd banned immediately from this forum. :damn:

Me too, very weird, just logged in and a few minutes later locked out.
