It is quite obvious that Neal has pasted the binoculars view onto the bridge view for comparison.
To elaborate:
  • Binoculars view is even with the horizon, rest of screen is tilted slightly to one side.
  • Binoculars view has a fairly calm sea, rest of screen has waves.
  • Binoculars view has ships in view, rest of screen has nothing as far as the eye can see.
  • No frame around the binoculars view.
  • Two mouse pointers.
Ocean looks awesome, though, I know I probably won't be able to run the game on anything close to full graphics, but hopefully it'll look pretty neat to me, too.

KING1111 relax.
I understand your frustration.
The interface sucks, but there is hope. We must wait for the mobs.
And look at this movie.

This man has the right idea. I'll get my pitchfork - tonight we march on Ubisoft Romania and get them to fix this UI!

FIREWALL 02-22-10 11:32 AM

Hadn't you all better wait for Neal to say whether he Photoshoped it or not ?

Or do you all do his talking for him ?

I think not. :nope:

This forum hits new lows every day.

Look carefully, there are TWO MOUSE POINTERS, isn't it obvious?

The amount of nagging going on in this forum lately is slowly starting to change from absurd to hilarious.

I am p*ssed off at UBI for their DRM (and therefore won't buy SH V for the time coming) just like many others, but that doesn't mean I have to run amok on the forums to vent my anger everytime I see a screenshot.

I suggest taking a take a deep breath...

Another great pic from Neal's preview.
Better ask Neal not to photoshop 'cos people get upset here

sorry 'bout the size

.

This is actually a "feature" of SH3 and 4, and sadly it looks like the same thing remains in 5 too. Waves are only drawn in a small area around the boat so that it looks ok in the unzoomed view, but the majority of the sea is indeed flat. This only really becomes apparent in view with magnification, such as a binocular view.

Feuer Frei! 02-22-10 11:57 AM

And that looks like a 9 inch nail bottom right that's been driven into DRM's coffin.... :DL Sadly, perhaps only the first nail has been driven :-?

OMG the game is complete faliere because of the benacular. Thats it what are we all going to do:wah:???

Just kidding here, seems that crapping on everything has became a routine. I hate this negativity, if i owned UBI, afrer reading this forum i would just see the game as a complete faliere and think that it is impossible to produce a subsim game that people are going to like.:nope:

Agreed. I am sure there are many Ubi executives who would be just as happy to scrap the SH series once and for all and concentrate on much more profitable games, like Assassin's Creed or Call of Duty.

Most companies bailed out of the simulation market a long time ago. Simulations are hard and expensive to design properly, the sales/profits are small and let's face it, wargamers complain at least 10x as much as any other group of customers.

I personally commend Ubisoft for continuing to support the simulation market with quality sims such as Silent Hunter, IL-2 and the upcoming Storm of War: Battle of Britain.

The problem with overly negative threads is that they drive away potential subsimmers. I almost did not buy SH4 because of all the negative comments here when it came out. I certainly will not make that mistake again.

Silent Hunter 5 will have flaws, that is guaranteed, but name me one simulation which is 100% realistic.

So, you're saying I'm going to need TWO mice to play this game?!?:o

Why is it that every time someone posts a screen shot of this unfinished version of the game, so many people start freaking out? I thought at first that it was because there was so little information coming out, that every little tidbit we got was gone over and analyzed and re-analyzed and over-analyzed.

But there's been more information coming out lately, and that idea doesn't hold. New theory: Is it just a general bad feeling people have about it, that they jump on any little thing they can find, and don't bother to pay attention to the whole picture?

Looks like you got me wrong on that..:hmmm:

My point was: since it has two mouse pointers, it's kinda obvious that someone used photoshop.

Better keep a mouse ready, just in case.

I hear you and agree about appreciating that they have helped continue series that I like but thankfully you're wrong about Storm of War. Maddox and company have seen the light and left Ubisoft after the IL-2 series and are publishing it themselves in most markets the last I heard. I'm really looking forward to that one and would have to pass, on principle once again, if they were an Ubisoft product due to you know what... (don't want to offend those that are tired of hearing about it! :) )
