Ja, unfortunately.
Just had to ask because hitting one while submerged has unpleasantly crossed my mind.
This time I was kind-of hoping SH3 messed up.
But no, I'm not brave enough to try it deliberately.

Just dont look at them from below... They look scary.... :o

Siantis 01-29-10 04:51 PM

The real question is how much tonnage do you get for sinking one?

8 torpedos and 200 deckgun rounds didn't even dent one

IIRC they're moddeled as environmentals and therefore indestructible, just like the dolphins and whales.

Thought that its impossible to moddel something as enviromental and add course, name and make it possible to indentify it at the same time...

lol you wont sink one
They have no damage model

When the game was released ( and after patching ) the Icebergs never worked - that is they never moved

After various attempts and ways of trying I think was Rubini who did it that way
Classifying them as a ship not only got them going but also meant your crew gave you an audible warning they were there so you didnt plough into one and if submerged you could hear them and save a crash also

Always a way around most things

ryanglavin 01-29-10 07:02 PM

Now i wish you could kill the dolphins and whales. Get blubber for a profit back home and some meat for the crew, eh? :yeah:

I'm just trying to make sure they aren't an aircraft carrier in disguise. :DL

Without checking the links I guess you mean the one the British were gonna make
:rotfl2:

They did actually build one ship out of ice - well ice and sawdust IIRC
At the bottom of a sound somewhere in Canada

There is at least one GWX3 mission where you actually have to attack a convoy passing through icebergs.:yeah:
I think its the ''Arctic'' missions (I & II).

Task Force 01-30-10 02:11 PM

yep, called Ice Ice baby 1 &2.:yep:

Yeah! Thanks. Your memory serves you well, TF. :salute:

Keeper Garrett 02-10-10 02:43 AM

I had a look under some of these with the free Camera, and they don't seem to be big enough underneath the surface. I thought it was 20/80 but in game look about 50/50.

Jimbuna 02-10-10 11:33 AM

In RL 1/8 or 12.5% of an iceberg shows above the water surface.

In game the percentages are almost reversed.

There really isn't much point in modelling something if you can't see the majority of said model.

Haha that made me laugh, how patient of you taking the time to fire 200 shells at an iceberg.
You probably will have some explaining to do when you get back to port about the whereabouts of your ammo :P

My first encounter with icebergs disappointed me. The hydrophone picked them up first as 3 slow merchants.
My patrol had been dry so far, so i went for it.
As i got closer the map named them (Iceberg 1, Iceberg 2 and Iceberg 3).
To be honest, i thought those were ship names (thought even the might be icebreakers) since i never expected icebergs to be shown on hydrophone or named on the map in the same way as ships.
