Hi Kaleuns!

Unfortunately I found a small bug which caused the type VII subs not having cables. In a few minutes I´ll upload a new version.

For those having CTDs... please read the README!! ;)

greetings
Han

The readme seems to be for Vista/W7. How do we apply the 3GB Patch in XP ? Where is WinXP located, or do we use Run in the Start Menu ?

Fantastic work Hansolo thank you very much for this excellent mod.

I did have a CTD but re-named sh3.sdl to .bak or something like this in the Sounds folder and I worked perfectly with GWX3. As this file was used in a couple of other mods such as the waterstreams mod.

Best Regards

Aces

I would love to know were to do this with XP Pro Service pack 3?

Apply the 3GB patch to WinXp to let programmes use more than 2GB:
-Go to Computer/extras/folderoptions -Change to "view"
-Remove check at "hide expansions from known filetypes"
-Remove check at "hide protected systemfiles"
-At "hidden files and folders" -> show all files and folders
-Open C: ->boot.ini with a simple texeditor
-Extend the command line with the following " /3GB

/USERVA=2990 " without questionmarks
-Save and make changes undone for folder views
-Restart the system

On XP were is this done exactly?

Cause this of go to computer doesn't give us XP users a lot of clues!

If some one can Aid on this thanks.

Tuddley3 02-17-10 06:41 AM

@ JCWolf - Are you still working on Uboat II ?

Hi!

Unfortunately I do not know the english description... at the german desktop it is called "Arbeitsplatz".
Just open the computer sign of your dekstop and browse the menu at the top!

You make this modification in your boot.ini file. Which is a hidden/readonly/system file. Most likely on your C:\ root.

First find the file, and get rid of the readonly attribute, then open with notepad:

Code:

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn /3GB /USERVA=2990
and Reboot.
Becareful with this file, if you mess it up and can't boot, you'll have to do troubleshooting with things like Recovery Console.

Tuddley3 02-17-10 07:50 AM

Ok, I figured it out. In the C:\ drive, you have to go to Tools/Folder Options/View and uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and click apply.

You will see a few files pop up kind of grayed out/transparent. Before you modify boot.ini, make a backup of it but making a duplicate called boot.bak.ini. Then follow the instructions about. Like in the previous post, if you can't reboot, restart again and press F8 and boot up in Safe Mode and restore your back up copy.

Now that I've said all this, it's time for me to try this out.

JCWolf 02-17-10 07:54 AM

Maybe it is because of the sounds... try only to activate "harbour_kit.dat"

Tuddley3 02-17-10 08:53 AM

@ piri_reis - Thanks a million, you helped me get back on patrol again.:salute::lost:

You're welcome mate, I think the /3GB switch is a must for people using XP with 4GB+ of RAM.

@Han; Beautiful addition to the Harbours, I love the guys doing metal work and the kapitan giving the famous speech to his crew :yeah:
But as you mention it's quite an FPS hit, very nice eye candy nonetheless.

Aces 02-17-10 09:53 AM

@JCWolf,

I had a CTD which I resolved as follows, this might be of help:

I noticed when I activated the u-boat pens mod in JSGME that the file I think it was called sh3.sdl or similar had been changed by two other mods one of them being the waterstreams mod. I renamed this file to .bak in the mod's /Sounds folder before re-activating it and I didn't get the CTD in sh3 kernel error that happened just as the mission had finished loading.

No harm trying this I guess, as the new sounds don't work in GWX I didn't see anything to loose.

Good luck and best regards

I have read a lot about the /3GB switch but decided not to implement it. Unless an application, for example SH3, is marked with a flag that says that it supports address space above 2GB it won't make any difference. If that flag isn't there, the application is only given the normal 2GB address space, so why bother. Having said that, if it's worked for some to get this mod to work then perhaps SH3 can address more than 2GB.

Back on topic, this mod looks great, but I fear the drop in FPS in port will cripple my ageing system.

I have tried your suggestion with the same result no good, the error still remained.

I have removed the Sound folder and tried just with the Library folder of your excellent Mod this means the Harbor_kit.dat plus the
Harbor_kit.dsd were installed and the result was the same black screen after loading the game at Kiel port and error message.

Fix for me:

I made another test, removed the Harbor_kit.dsd from the
Library folder and the sound folder and the game loaded the mod is
installed the Harbor Pen ( Beauty ) is there without the sound for it inside
only the normal Kiel Port sounds and animations work but the crew
on the Boats deck and there captain on the pear.

Basic removed everything but the Harbor_kit.dat and it works to add
the Pen only missing the animations , some of it I guess and sounds.

I have no idea what is causing this, maybe my version of Direct X that is this one:

http://www.techmixer.com/install-dir...rc2-pre-fix-3/

I don't know what to do anymore guys...If you have any clue on why this happens tell me.:hmmm::salute:

HanSolo78 02-17-10 12:26 PM

@JCWolf

If it work for the visuals that´s it for Gwx.
There an´t animations missing. Only Sound!

Have fun!
