@AVG Yep, that radiator looking thing does a pretty good job of cooling:up:

I would guess a dust thing also. Imagine getting dust out of the diodes, Then again, there is a fan blowing across it anyway. Who knows.

Yeah I bet it keeps it cool. You see in mine the sideways mount for the CPU cooler? I was a bit leary about this set up and the performance. It works very well. Blows the heat back towards the larger exhaust fan. As you can see the intake fan right on top of the CPU fan area. Constantly pushing cool air to the CPU fan and the CPU fan pushing it out. You can not see it but behind the little radiator type deal for the CPU there is a vent that channels air to the mobo itself.

I think a lot of it is just pure tradition. Cards have been mounted in that direction for ages now going back to the first IBM PCs (an i think even earlier then that)

FIREWALL 04-06-09 12:00 PM

You spend a small fortune for a hot vid card that also LOOKS cool and nobody can see it. :haha:

It just figures. :damn: :haha:

That looks like something a guy could have some fun with. :yeah:

Since everyone is showing off their computer rigs I may as well do the same::D

I installed the blue light to get a little more speed and power, though I left out the pin striping just in case the old girl couldn't handle it!!:O:

Nice rig Reece. What does the silver knob on the top of the case do for you? Also, the thick white and thick black cables to the back, what do that service for you?

danlisa 04-08-09 07:50 AM

To hell with my rig, Torplexed lets see some closeups of those sketches behind your laptop, esp the one with the rather happy lady looking over her shoulder.:DL lol

Yeah, I asked him a few posts back....must have hit the ignore button and went to stash his questionable drawings in the mean time:hmmm: I just want to know who did the posing for the drawing:D

That 5.25 bay has the Zalman ZM-MFC2 controller installed, does:

Fan speed control set by large silver knob.
Fan speed display for 4 fans.
Temperature with supplied sensors for 4 devices. (CPU, GPU, PSU, Interior)
Total Power consumed by computer, on a sliding scale. (hovers around 257watts)

Just the clutter of cables behind the computer, sits below the desk on the floor, wish there was a neat way of laying that mess out!!:yep:

Sorry AVG...I'm on dial-up which means these big pictures bump the page up so I probably missed your post.

I have a dry-erase board which has become a scrap board of sorts. Some of these are mine, some belong to friends, and some are from cartoonists and animators whose work I admire. Mort Drucker, Jack Davis, Brett Blevins, Chris Sanders among others. I think there may a potential fire hazard brewing though. :D

I'm admiring some of their work also and yours as well:hmmm::D

No, inside your computer. You have a large cable going to the back of the computer. Looks perhaps like a video out cable. There is a white and black one. Looks to be between your video card and sound card perhaps.

Reece 04-09-09 07:45 AM

Ah now I'm with you, the black one is part of the Zalman ZM-MFC2 controller, it goes to a power box that connects between the power plug and the PSU for the power (wattage) readout, the whole unit is around $50,and is really good value IMO, the only problem is the colored LCD readout has to be viewed directly on or the display values will all show eights if you know what I mean, the white cable is just extra USB external plugs.

AVGWarhawk 04-09-09 07:59 AM

OK, got'cha. I have seen cables like this and one in particular in my old computer that hooked up to the SD card slot and other slots for small memory cards.

I can tell which are yours. Man, you are so cool! I wish my wall looked that good

:hmmm: Not yet but my other Graphics card arrived today. Just waiting for my New PSU then i will install them both. Then i will try and bring down the camp's power grid:salute:

When you look at the box layout all the cards are facing down so you only see the soldered side of the boards, wouldn't it be better to have the motherboard mounted on the opposite side so that you can see the component side, would look a lot nicer.:yeah: Maybe it's for dust purposes that they keep the components on the underside,:hmmm: Do they actually make a case with left & right reversed? or is this a left/right hand thing?:hmmm:

Some cases are ATX and BTX standard which means you can basically reverse the way the motherboard is mounted so that the expansion cards face up and not down. BTX was devised by Intel back when they were producing those hot hot hot pentium 4 prescotts. ATX was not designed for optimal coling of those beasts. Intel tried to strongarm the industry in ditching ATX for BTX but that didn't come to pass. So we are still stuck with ATX excpet for some specific (and costly) cases that implement both standards. Right now with cpu that are very efficient in terms of thermal dissipation there is no need for a BTX standard.

Reece 04-09-09 07:16 PM

Thanks for the info goldorak, it's purely for looks but would be better for heat sinks etc to be facing up rather than down, I'll do a search for BTX but like you say, probably rare and costly, you'd think some Chinese manufacturer would produce some to see if it kicks off!!:yep:
